All assistants' salaries are now denominated in sats!!! Why do we do this? Because denominating in fiat means you're still using fiat. Going Bitcoin-only means not only transacting in Bitcoin, but thinking in terms of Bitcoin. We cannot move all operations instantly away from fiat. For now, the world around us still thinks in fiat. But we can keep taking small steps, always in the same direction. This is about more than a salary. It’s about planting a seed for the future. Our The Surfer Kids assistant coaches and Bitcoin Ekasi teaching assistants are still in high school. They are not permanent employees they are young people getting an opportunity to work part-time, earn an income, and learn valuable life skills. Their salaries are denominated in sats (satoshis). Instead of simply receiving a rand amount, their pay is calculated and paid in sats. Why do we do this? Because we want them to experience Bitcoin, not just learn about it. We want them to understand what it means to earn, save, and think long-term. If they choose to save some of the sats they earn today, what could those sats mean for them in 5 or 10 years? We don’t know what the future price of Bitcoin will be. But we can give young people the opportunity to start saving today and learn the value of thinking about tomorrow. One sat at a time. TSK Rewards: Earn, Save & Spend Bitcoin 🧡⚡️ At The Surfer Kids, children who achieve 70%+ monthly attendance earn Bitcoin rewards in sats. They can then choose to save their sats or spend them at local Bitcoin-accepting merchants, including on everyday necessities like groceries. This gives children practical experience with Bitcoin while rewarding attendance, responsibility and consistency. Most importantly, the sats can circulate within the local township economy supporting local businesses while teaching children the value of earning, saving and spending Bitcoin. TSK Rewards Spending⚡️⚡️⚡️ At The Surfer Kids, we record the monthly attendance of every child participating in our programme. Children who achieve an attendance rate of 70% or higher qualify for monthly Bitcoin rewards, paid in sats (satoshis). The children can then spend their sats at local onboarded shops and merchants that accept Bitcoin as a form of payment. This gives the children an opportunity to experience the practical use of Bitcoin while also rewarding their commitment and consistency in the programme. An important part of the initiative is that the sats are circulated within the local township economy. Instead of the reward simply being a once-off incentive, children can use their sats to purchase everyday necessities, including groceries, from participating local merchants. Through this initiative, The Surfer Kids is using Bitcoin to encourage regular attendance, responsibility and commitment, while introducing children to Bitcoin and helping support local businesses within their communities. #TSKRewardsSpending
