this place is infested with bots already man this sucks

had a deep long converstation with my flatmate who works in the marketing department of a pretty sizable fintech company according to him platforms like X, instagram, and even reddit (soon) are very good for running ads and brand campaigns its influencers promoting products many posts you see there are advertising something in some form and this fucking sucks i lost my shit when he showed me few example which i thought were genuine posts from genuine twelebs honestly the only solution for this i feel is to get rid of the recommendation algorithm and have a decentralized platform where people follow people whom they want to stay connected with also maybe just maybe people will realise what's going on with the brands and bots and AI slop and realise it's time to gtfo of these platforms and look for a real medium, a place, a platform where humans interact with humans, have real meaningful interactions well, anybody could build another twitter or another instagram how is this going to be different? it should be decentralized and open source it should be trusted it should be a pleasure to use not having a recommendation algorithm will hurt few monkey brains (obviously) but this is much needed. we are going back in time before ML and rec algos took over our lives, when it was just meme accounts and your friends in your TL life was good back then. we're gonna bring it back what i still haven't figured out is to control AI slop and bots i told him about nostr and he was really hyped tbh (surprisingly) i went through few different popular protocols - ActivityPub, ATproto, SSB, and nostr ActivityPub won't scale ATproto i need to research further SSB is good but weird nostr is ok but it seems pretty feasible i guess i'm gonna build a public friendly nostr client then TLDR: > current state of social media is just bots and AI and marketing > im predicting people will realise and look for a platform to form real connections and interactions > decentralization is the answer and it will be a good opportunity to seize user base > im building a user friendly client (for nostr at the moment)
