The CEO of a social media agency wrote this on centralised SM. He's not on Nostr (yet!) but I think we need it to read it so his post is pasted in full below. As we build, companies may want to support us. He poses how these companies should consider getting involved.

My 1st thought when a brand tells me it wants to be "culturally relevant"
Relevant to who, and what have you actually done for them?
Cultural relevance is a reputation you earn, in a specific community, over time. You don't get to parachute into a subculture, take the bits that make you look good, and leave before the music stops. People can smell that a mile off, and they remember it.
And the people you're really trying to win a tiny group.
In any scene there are only a handful whose opinion actually moves everyone else. The tastemakers. They've earned their position by being right early and putting themselves on the line, and they have zero patience for a brand that turns up to use them. The brands that actually get in show up before they need anything.
They fund the thing with no logo on it.
They put money behind the people doing the real work and ask for nothing back.
They turn up when there's no camera, not just when there's a campaign.
Think about these things first:
- How do we give back to this community?
- How do we facilitate this subculture instead of exploiting it?
-Are we here for the long haul, or just until the trend cools off?
- How do we become a custodian of something, rather than a tourist in it?
The community does the rest when they actually want you there.
