True Solidarity vs. State Abandonment:
The Lesson from the June 24 EarthquakeWhile the Venezuelan people wake up at dawn to prepare breakfasts, carry water, medicine, and tools to those digging survivors out of the rubble with their bare hands, the State is nowhere to be found.
Brother nations like El Salvador have given unconditional support: rescue brigades, humanitarian aid, and real solidarity. Infinite thanks to all the countries and people who have extended a helping hand. In contrast, after more than 27 years of plundering a resource-rich country, the Venezuelan government has left its own population adrift.
Thousands dead and missing. Collapsed buildings. Families searching desperately for loved ones. While ordinary citizens line up to help with whatever little they have, the aid circulating on social media is not reaching the most affected areas with the speed and transparency needed.
The people are saving the people. Neighbors pulling survivors from the ruins with ropes and shovels, while the State—with supposedly infinite resources—stands with arms crossed or, worse, places obstacles to the arrival of medical supplies and international aid.
This is not just a natural disaster. It is the result of years of institutional destruction.Venezuela deserves so much more.
The people are once again showing their greatness. International help is proving it.
