Make sure that if you’re downloading software for the first time to migrate your coins, you triple-check that you’re downloading it from the official source. Don’t just click the first Google result. Verify the website URL, confirm it’s the legitimate publisher, and, when possible, verify the download’s signatures or checksums. Scammers routinely buy Google ads that funnel unsuspecting people to convincing lookalike sites designed to steal your Bitcoin. Take an extra 60 seconds to verify the source. It could save you from losing everything to some duckhead running a nefarious ad campaign.

Nature at work this week. It would be naïve to think a financial revolution at the magnitude that Bitcoiners envision would lack blood in the streets. This is the risk. I have accepted this risk. That responsibility is on me. Have contingency plans, and mitigate the risk.
