When you start with Bitcoin, you don’t have to buy a whole coin! Just like a dollar is divided into cents, Bitcoin is divided into much smaller units called satoshis, or "sats".
Key Facts:
- A satoshi is the smallest possible unit of a Bitcoin.
- One Bitcoin is equal to 100,000,000 satoshis.
- It is named after Bitcoin's anonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.
- While a dollar has 100 cents, a Bitcoin has 100 million sats—giving it far more decimal places for precision.
Why it matters: When you hear someone say they "own 50,000 sats," they are simply describing their balance in a more readable way (specifically 0.0005 BTC).
Stacking sats is the foundation of building long-term value. Start small, learn the protocol, and grow your digital vault. 🧱⚡️

How do you onboard 4 million businesses to Bitcoin overnight? You don't ask them to change—you change the plumbing for them.
The Square (Block) News:
Starting March 30, Bitcoin Lightning payments will be auto-enabled for Square’s entire merchant ecosystem.
Why this matters for you:
1. No Tech Barrier: Merchants don't need to be "techies." The option is just there.
2. Instant Value: Lightning means instant settlement. No 3-day wait for funds to clear.
3. The Shift: When the "default" is a global, open-source protocol, the legacy banks lose their gatekeeper status.
The Takeaway:
Innovation is most successful when it is invisible. Square isn't just selling a "crypto" feature; they are giving 4 million businesses a faster, cheaper way to move value. 🌍⚡️

Most people think of savings as a pile of cash in the bank. However, a better way to look at it is as "captured time and energy." You worked hard today so that you can buy something tomorrow. The problem is that traditional currencies act like a battery that slowly leaks power. Because central banks can create more money at will, the value of the euros or dollars you saved yesterday buys less today.
Bitcoin is the first financial battery that doesn't leak. There is a strict limit of 21 million coins, which means no one can devalue your savings by printing more. When you save in Bitcoin, you are placing your hard work into a vault that is mathematically protected from inflation. You aren't just saving money; you are preserving your life's energy for the future.
The Lesson:
If you want to build a house, you need a foundation that won't shift. If you want to build a future, you need a savings tool that won't melt. Bitcoin is that foundation. 🧱⚡️

We know that discussions around stablecoins on #Bitcoin can get heated. In the world of finance, passion is high because the stakes are high. But at Simon Academy, we aren’t here to win an argument—we are here to share knowledge. 🤝
Our goal is simple: to take the complex "plumbing" of modern finance and make it understandable for every professional. Whether you are a maximalist, a fintech executive, or a risk manager, understanding how these tools work is more important than fighting over if they should exist.
We believe that education is the ultimate bridge. When we simplify things like Taproot Assets, RGB, Lightning, or eCash, we move past the name-calling and start looking at the real-world solutions that will drive the next decade of global commerce. 🏗️⚡
So, let’s lower the temperature and raise the signal. Follow us for clear, simple, and professional insights into the future of money.
Knowledge is the only asset that never loses its value. 📚

LND vs. Core Lightning (CLN) ⚡️💻
The Lightning Network isn’t a single software; it’s a protocol built on a series of open standards known as BOLT (Basics of Lightning Technology) that different "implementations" use to talk to each other. While we will dive deeper into the specific BOLTs in a future post, here is how the two heavyweight implementations stack up:
LND (Lightning Network Daemon): Developed by Lightning Labs, this is the "Batteries Included" choice. Written in Go, it is the most popular implementation. It’s feature-rich out of the box, making it the go-to for routing nodes and popular plug-and-play kits like Umbrel.
Core Lightning (CLN): Developed by Blockstream, this is the "Modular" choice. Written in C, CLN is designed for performance and flexibility. It uses a plugin system, allowing developers to customize their node’s behavior without touching the core code.
Interoperability: Because both follow the BOLT specifications, they are fully compatible. An LND node can open a channel with a CLN node seamlessly—just like Chrome can talk to Safari via HTTP.
Liquidity & Tools: LND has a massive ecosystem of management tools (like Loop and Pool), while CLN is favored by technical purists for its low resource overhead and "Unix-style" philosophy.
The Lesson: LND is like the user-friendly "Windows" of Lightning, while CLN is the "Linux" for power users. Both are essential for a robust, decentralized network. 🧱🍊

What is NFC? (Near Field Communication) ⚡️📱
NFC is a short-range wireless technology (usually <4cm) that enables instant, contactless data transfer between two devices.
- Retail Speed: NFC replaces QR scanning with a "tap-to-pay" experience, making Bitcoin Lightning payments as fast as a traditional debit card.
- Cold Storage (Tangem): Wallets like Tangem use NFC chips to store private keys securely offline. You sign transactions by tapping the card to your phone; the keys never leave the chip.
- eCash & Cashu: Modern wallets use NFC for peer-to-peer
@Cashu transfers, allowing users to swap private eCash tokens by simply touching phones together.
- Bolt Devices: This tech powers "passive" hardware like
@Bolt Card, Bolt rings, and tags that don't need batteries—they draw power from the reader during the tap.
The Lesson: NFC is the "Nuts and Bolts" of mainstream adoption. It turns complex cryptography into a simple, physical habit that everyone already knows how to use. 🧱🍊

What are Taproot Assets? 🌳💎
Taproot Assets (formerly Taro) is a protocol that allows people to issue assets—like stablecoins or collectibles—directly on the Bitcoin blockchain using the efficiency of the Taproot upgrade.
You can now send "dollars" or any other assets across the Lightning Network. Bitcoin provides the security, while Taproot Assets provide the flexibility.
Because these assets are compatible with Lightning, they can be transferred instantly and for nearly zero fees, just like sats.
Taproot Assets are the perfect "backing" for eCash Mints. A Mint could hold Taproot-based stablecoins to offer users private, instant "Digital Dollars" on Layer 3.
The Lesson: Taproot Assets turn Bitcoin into a multi-asset network. It’s no longer just about moving BTC; it’s about moving any form of value over the most secure decentralized rails in existence.

What is Multi-Signature (Multisig)? 🗝️🗝️
Imagine a physical vault that requires two different keys held by two different people to open. That is exactly what Multisig does for your Bitcoin.
In a standard wallet, if you lose your key (or it gets stolen), your sats are gone. In a Multisig setup (like a 2-of-3), you can lose one key and still recover your funds with the other two.
This is how Federated Mints work. Instead of one person controlling the Bitcoin backing the eCash, a group of "Guardians" must agree to move the funds.
This is the gold standard for businesses and families. It moves us away from "trusting a person" to "trusting a distributed process".
The Lesson: Security isn't just about a "strong password"—it's about distribution. By using Multisig, you become your own bank with built-in redundancy.

What is a NutZap? 🥜⚡️
Imagine you want to send someone a tip on Nostr. Normally, you’d use a "Zap," which is like a digital bank transfer. A NutZap is more like handing someone a physical $5 bill in a crowded room.
Why they are better for you:
No "Digital Paperwork": In a normal Zap, you often need a "Lightning Invoice"—essentially a digital bill—to get paid. With a NutZap, you can receive money just by having a profile name. No extra steps.
Total Privacy: Because it uses
@Cashu eCash (Nuts), the person sending the money and the "Mint" helping move it don't see who you are or what you're buying. It's like a "ghost payment" that only you can see.
Instant & Non-Custodial: You don't have to wait for a bank or a central company to approve it. The money goes from your pocket to theirs instantly.
The Lesson: If Zaps are digital checks, NutZaps are digital cash. They are faster, more private, and make it easier than ever to support your favorite creators on the protocol.

What is the Genesis Block? 🧱💎
The Genesis Block (also known as Block 0) is the first-ever block of the Bitcoin blockchain, mined by Satoshi Nakamoto on January 3, 2009.
Satoshi embedded a hidden headline in the block’s coinbase parameter: "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks." This serves as Bitcoin’s "Birth Certificate" and a permanent reminder of why it was created: as a response to centralized financial failure.
Just days later, on January 12, 2009, Satoshi sent the first-ever Bitcoin transaction (10 BTC) to cypherpunk Hal Finney.
Unlike almost every other digital asset, Satoshi didn't sell coins to VCs or "pre-mine" for personal gain. Every satoshi had to be earned through Proof of Work from day one.

Get ready to level up your understanding of the sovereign web! Starting this Monday, Simon Academy is launching a daily educational series every weekday on Nostr.
Every morning, we'll break down the essential standards that power our money, our communication, and our privacy—one fundamental concept at a time. 🧱🧱
Here’s your daily learning schedule:
Mondays: BIPs (Bitcoin Improvement Proposals) – Deciphering the foundations of our digital money. 🏛️
Tuesdays: BOLTs (Basis of Lightning Technology) – Unpacking the speed and efficiency of instant payments. ⚡️
Wednesdays: NIPs (Nostr Implementation Possibilities) – Exploring the building blocks of sovereign communication. 💜
Thursdays: NUTs (Notation for Untraceable Transactions) – Diving into the privacy-preserving world of
@Cashu eCash. 🥜
Fridays: Weekly Recap – Connecting the dots and exploring how these layers converge to build the circular economy. 🌍🔄
The Goal: To move from simply using these tools to deeply understanding them. Knowledge is the ultimate form of sovereignty. 🛡️🍊
Tune in every weekday, starting this Monday, to solidify your grasp of the protocols building our future!

Happy Friday, #Nostriches! 🤙 It's time for a bit of Simon Academy knowledge to carry you into the weekend. 🏛️⚡️
While many see Bitcoin as just money and Nostr as just a social protocol, the magic happens where they intersect.
On the legacy web, your identity is "leased" from big tech. On Nostr, your identity is a public key that you own. When you link that identity to your Bitcoin Lightning address (via NIP-05 or your profile zaps), you aren't just a user; you are an economic node.
Why this matters:
Permissionless Payments: You can receive value (zaps) from anywhere in the world without a bank or a "follow" button being the gatekeeper.
Unstoppable Reputation: Your "proof of work" (your notes, articles, and zaps) stays with you. Even if one client disappears, your identity and your economic history move with you to the next one.
The Circular Economy: We are building a world where your social presence is your financial storefront.
As you enjoy your weekend, remember: Bitcoin secures your wealth, but Nostr secures your voice. Together, they make you truly sovereign. 🛡️🍊
Are you just 'posting,' or are you building your sovereign storefront? Let's discuss below!
That’s a wrap for our first day on the #PlebChain! 🎓

QUIZ TIME! ❓
It’s Friday the 13th. In Bitcoin, we don't rely on luck—we rely on math.
The Question: What is the maximum supply of Bitcoin that will ever exist? ♾️
The Prize: The first person to reply with the correct number gets a 3 sat zap! ⚡️
#BitcoinQuiz #LearnToEarn #SimonAcademy #FridayThe13th

Friday Definition: The 'Halving' ✂️₿
Every 210,000 blocks (~4 years), the issuance of new Bitcoin is cut by 50%. This hard-coded scarcity is why Bitcoin is the world's first 'absolute' digital money.
Understanding supply is the first step to understanding value.
