Opinion | Trump’s 'Board of Peace' is a grim joke

Hussein Ibish: Rather than serving any of the millions of homeless people of Gaza, this “board” is another of Trump’s monuments to himself.

The inaugural meeting of the President Donald Trump-led “Board of Peace” on Thursday was fittingly described as a “show” in the White House readout circulated to the press. It was indeed merely a show. And while it is supposed to address post-war reconstruction in Gaza, there is no mechanism for connecting it to anything that could happen in reality. The initial impulse for creating this board was the resolution of the war in Gaza and the reconstruction of the almost totally demolished living areas for the 2.2 million Palestinian civilians there, almost all now huddling in makeshift tents waiting for the next box of food aid. But the board’s remit recently expanded to ending multiple conflicts, including the war in Ukraine.

COVID-19 has claimed the lives of more than 7 million people across the world, to date, including over 1 million people in the U.S., according to the World Health Organization. In addition to this staggering death toll, the disease has unleashed a wave of chronic illness, and at the peak of the pandemic, it triggered widespread disruptions in supply chains and health care services that ultimately threatened or ended people's lives. Since its emergence in 2019, the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has had a tremendous impact on society. And yet, the next pandemic could potentially be even worse.

Peter has a sexy ponytail, likes hiking, and it the kind of benign sociopath that will tell you honestly if your endeavors in evil will float or sink. He rarely takes sides, and doesn't mind reporting failures on both the left and right. He is ostensibly more left wing than he is right wing, but his true nature is that of a mercenary war strategist whose mother read him Machiavelli at bedtime. While trans rights are not the only thing he mentions, and in fact, he doesn't really focus on it, he does say this: Most Americans do not have graduate degrees. Don't think he's slamming voters for being uneducated or low information because he follows up with: And so the sort of tunnel vision that you can get if you're part of this coastal elite just doesn't really carry out to others. This is true- the left has had this problem for a very long time. Their response has always been to kvetch about low income white people rather than do serious outreach.
