After deploying the Babelfish [1] machine translation engine at AtlaVista in the 1990s, Henry has been working on Decentralised social Networks since 2004 at Sun Microsystems when he took up foaf, contributing to the Atom Syntax syndication format, WebID Authentication, then in 201x worked on Linked Data Protocol, Social Linked Data Platform (Solid), and now is working on Access Control. He read philosophy, spent three years immersed in [2] Category Theory towards a Solid Phd, and earns a living programming in #Scala. He will also talk to you about the #WebOfNations. If someone sponsors me, I’ll be happy to go to #Seville for #W3C #TPAC. I have not been for a while. Otherwise, I’ll follow some of the sessions online from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. #w3cTPAC View quoted note →

It looks like in #damus one can follow a hash tag. Damus remembers these. But I can’t find a place where I can edit them or only see content with those tags - to see how lively a tag is. image

""Sellars as Metaphysician: #Norms and Nature, Appearance and Realty" Robert Brandom's 2023 Ph.D. Seminar #1 Robert Brandom was a student of David K. Lewis and Richard Rorty and his major influence was Sellars. Where Sellars wanted to move analytic philosophy from its Humean stage to its Kantian stage, Brandom's work has been to move it from the Kantian to the #Hegelian stage via a reinterpretation of Hegel as an analytic pragmatist. Brandom's initial key book was "Making it Explicit" followed later by "Analytic Pragmatism". He then wrote a number of books on Hegel's philosophy - completely surprising if one remembers that Bertrand Russel started analytic philosophy in opposition to Hegel! How do logic and doing interact? side question: Is he perhaps really thinking about the relation between #algebra and #coalgebra? Well, lets find out. In this Ph.D. lecture series, #quine and many others turn up. #philosophy #Hegel #Kant #pragmatism #analytic

It would help if, on @primal and other #nostrclients, one could have a feed of a disjunction of one's favorite search terms or #tags. I have quite a wide variety of topics that are moving quietly herel, with perhaps 1 post a day for e.g. #scala or #math, but if I could put them all together, I would, I think have a pretty interesting home page.

10 years ago John Vervaeke, Prof of #cognitive science at Toronto Uni, wrote a book on the Zombie Zeitgeist which I think he correctly predicted. What is a Zombie, and why were there so many around? The #covid19 Pandemic when you come to think of it was predicted by so many #zombie films: research labs leak virus which then zombifies the masses cowering everyone in their homes, with as only remedy a vaccine that takes too long to come.

Is there a #relay that is particularly high on quality content?

It has been known for a long time that the most central problem on the #web was the lack of a micropayment system other than advertising, leading to the enormous investment into companies that could garner more and more data about individuals, as more data meant better-targeted ads, which returned 10-1000x more than plain ads. #nostr's integration of #lightning [1] micropayment as an extra "like" feature into the #twitter-like user experience is a great live example of how new micropayment systems can change the game. It is live, and you can try it out [2] and send people micropayments for as It Is also valuable for helping people pay devs for the user interfaces, #relays that reduce spam, reward artists, etc.… Most importantly, it will allow journalists to be rewarded without us needing to take a yearly subscription to a magazine. There is too much content on the World Wide Web for me to want to subscribe to each major paper just because it has one great article I’d be happy to pay for. With governments no longer subsidizing journalism, they may again dare to take on their essential role of questioning it intelligently. The Lightning network is open and could be used by any other protocol, such as #Mastodon or Tim Berners-Lee’s #Solid project, or much more. The Bblfish PS. Attached is a picture of my transactions, showing how little money can exchange hands… from 1 sat to 500 sats thanks to #yakihonne (a company producing a client for markdown enabled #nostr), worth $0.13 PPS. #Apple asked App devs to remove the micropayment system if they don’t give them 30% of the proceeds! Luckily, these limitations cannot be placed on Web Browsers such as #Firefox or #Chrome, and other options are available to get around this. [2] or browse some content from one of the web clients starting from Will’s page below. [1] Note: I have not analyzed the technology in detail. The integration of lightning payment was not built into the system from the start but was added by #Damus developer Will . image

the various filter options on #snort are very nice. #Global helps get an idea of what is going on worldwide, though it would help if one could filter it by language. I speak English, French and German for example. One could then add optional translation service. Indeed I could imagine a translation service relay could save by translating Notes once and then serving them later.

Crocodiles are one of the oldest living species on Earth, dating back to the Late Cretaceous period, about 94 million years ago. They are the closest living relatives of birds, and they have survived several mass extinctions that wiped out many other animals. Some branches though did not survive, such as the various vegetarian crocodiles discovered by scientists recently. image NYTimes article: Cell article: https://www.cell.com/current-biology/fulltext/S0960-9822(19)30690-6

Here is a process I am using to link up with people I know on #Mastodon from #Nostr. 1. I followed my Mastodon #mostr clone account on #nostr. 2. I also followed the #nostr account on #mastodon 3. When I see some post I like on #Mastodon I retweet it (retoot?), and then I can usually see it from #nostr. 4. I then follow the #Mastodon account via their #mostr handle 5. and perhaps repost that Toot here on #nostr, so that they can get a bit of visibility here too. So now I post things that are potentially controversial on #nostr and leave the politically correct stuff on #mastodon. (The smallest deviation from the norm there leads to a visit from the thought police).
