Merv Fabio Lopiano recently made Shackleton Base which has been popular. I tried this earlier design because of the theme. It's a sophisticated mesh of tracks and worker placement. It's not a huge monstrosity at 2.5 hours and sticks to the theme tolerably well, but it leaves me cold #boardgames

Hallertau I love the number of resources and how you're trying to grow as much as you can on your fields. The separate sheep economy is also really clever. Impressive how Rosenberg has made so many games about farming which are similar in feel but really quite different mechanically. #boardgames

Southern Rails A connections game with no money. It's all about shared incentives. Fast and easy. I have seen it compared to Through the Desert or Blue Lagoon, but I might prefer it to both. Very similar to Iberian Rails but without the distraction of money. #boardgames image

Iberian Railways I love cube rail games but this one fell a little flat. You start off with โ‚ฌ0 and have to take loans to do anything. ๐Ÿ‘ Instead of the richest player winning, there are victory point conditions.๐Ÿ‘Ž ๐Ÿ‘Ž Overall it's fine, but there are so many excellent cube rails games. #boardgames

Wyrmspan Exactly what it says on the tin. Slightly more complex version of Wingspan with pink dragons. (The dragon with the head of a pufferfish is laughably bad.) #boardgames

Power Grid Spain & Portugal I'm pretty sure this map was not tested properly. At step 2, weak windfarms are added and gum up the auction. No one wants them and only one is deleted each round. Ruins the game. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ What was FF thinking? #boardgames

A Few Acres of Snow We had a lovely time learning this deck building war game about The French and Indian War. It's subtle. Deep complexity emerges in the gameplay, not in the rules. #boardgames

Origin Story I first thought this is a game that just uses tricktaking as a mechanism but I was wrong. At its core it is a fairy simple trick taker. #boardgames

Cave Troll Always a good time. I prefer my old version without minis as cardboard counters are easier to recognise. #boardgames

Karnak Assemble structures to match contract cards scored at the end. Claim contracts early to get bonus cards, but then opponents can wreck your structures. In the end game I was blocked. I could not complete any contracts and I could not get any more pieces. Boring and frustrating. #boardgames

Before the Wind This little card game is *much* better with 3. Each player can pick an action card but if you want another player's action you can bid for it. They have to pay you to keep it or they can sell. Tense decisions. #boardgames image

Clank Catacombs Love this. The push your luck element of getting out of the dungeon before the dragon kills you is superb. You're circling around the exit in the end game trying to scrape up a last artifact before you bail while watching everyone else. #boardgames

Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space Professional production of a hidden movement print and play game. Using pen and paper would be just as good. Captain Sonar is much more tense and interesting because of the time limit and having to work with your teammates. #boardgames

Karuba This came out a couple of years before Railroad Ink and I'm sure it was inspired by Karuba, as you are connecting two opposite sides of the board in a very similar way. If you like one you'll like the other but you do not need both. #boardgames

Imhotep Boats are ferrying stone to the pyramids. You have to make sure that your stones are generating the most victory points. Once all stones are placed score a round and repeat. Lots of turn order shenanigans, which makes it very interactive. Quick and intuitive. Recommended. #boardgames
