Bitcoin, Terry Pratchett, 🇵🇸
@primal this is a bit embarrassing but I searched #nsfw (I’m not proud of it but it’s done 🤷🏻‍♂️). But I cannot delete it and it reminds me every time I look at search. Pls allow me to delete it 😳
Sir Terry Pratchett explaining Plato’s cave 😂 "Life in this world," he said, "is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say, humbly, ‘Go on, do Deformed Rabbit.'" — Sir Terry Pratchett, Small Gods
"What have I always believed? That on the whole, and by and large, if a man lived properly, not according to what any priests said, but according to what seemed decent and honest inside, then it would, at the end, more or less, turn out all right." — Sir Terry Pratchett, Small Gods
Something has clicked for me in the last few weeks. I understand that if we don’t spend Bitcoin, Bitcoin isn’t money. I used to feel guilty about not spending Bitcoin cos I never found anything that was worth more than Bitcoin. Now though I want access to compute and AI without being tracked by my credit card and I find I’ve got absolutely no issues with spending Bitcoin. My point is don’t feel guilty. You won’t want to spend your Bitcoin until you do. Then you’ll be actively looking for ways to spend it.
I’m a bit weary about posting this cos the last time I boasted about my Hermes Agent it crashed and it took me a week to get it back up. But I’m bursting and need to share. So I’ve got a MacStudio 36GB and I’m running Hermes Agent with gemma4:31b locally with ollama and now I’ve added qwen3-vl for ‘vision’ also locally on ollama. But what I’m most proud of is the Apple account for this computes is registered to my agent (used @Proton Mail and for the sms - used Netherlands). I’ve then got GitHub via Apple ID, agent Mail, signal, and various things linked to my agent only. I’ve set up a skill where my agent upgrades to @Maple for complex things. I also used @PayPerQ to run Hermes using opus 4.8 which burned through money and didn’t achieve much. Gemma4 takes time but it gets it right. Much better than GLM-4.7 which I was running earlier. Now I just need to figure what to do with all this power. Done. Feeling better. Thanks for listening.
We should make kindness great again. "The Librarian was not familiar with love, which had always struck him as a bit ethereal and soppy, but kindness, on the other hand, was practical. You knew where you were with kindness, especially if you were holding a pie it had just given you." — Sir Terry Pratchett, Unseen Academicals
This one’s a bit cynical but that doesn’t prevent it from being true; Susan discussing with DEATH. "All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need…fantasies to make life bearable. Really? As if it was some kind of pink pill?” “NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.” "Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little—" “YES. AS PRACTICE, YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.” "So we can believe the big ones?" “YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.” - Sir Terry Pratchett, The Hogfather
So I’ve been using Hermes Agent for a while now. I run it on a Mac Studio 36 GB with local glm-4.7-flash:latest. Not bad a bit slow. Today I used Claude opus 4.8. It was faster for sure but it burned through $7 worth of tokens and didn’t achieve what I wanted. I’m back to glm and frankly I’m happier. Local models with @Maple or @PayPerQ back up is the way to go. Completely free with high powered backup.
Here’s Sir Terry Pratchett talking about bitcoin again. "We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope." — Terry Pratchett, Mort
"Human beings are gregarious by nature. We need to be heard, we need to know that someone else is out there, and we need to feel that our thoughts matter more than a fart in a crowded lift." — Terry Pratchett, Monstrous Regiment
