Quantum is the Bitcoin Security Consortium's first focus, and Blockstream Research has spent the last year working toward a quantum-safe Bitcoin. Check out the thread below to learn about some of our initiatives, starting with OP_CHECKSHRINCS. 🧵 image OP_CHECKSHRINCS is a proposed opcode for verifying SHRINCS, a hash-based post-quantum signature scheme. At 7x smaller than the NIST standard, it's small enough to actually work on Bitcoin. image Hash-based signatures are the near-term answer. Lattices are a strong potential long-term play: eventually ~50% smaller signatures and faster verification, and unlike hash-based they preserve multisig, threshold, and HD wallets. Here's how they work: image How worried should Bitcoin holders be? Today's best quantum hardware can barely factor 21. Taproot already has a quantum-safe path built in via its script tree. Blockstream Research ran the first post-quantum tx on the @Liquid Network in March 2026. image None of it works without solid cryptography. Blockstream Research are key contributors and maintainers of libsecp256k1, behind every Bitcoin signature, and libsecp256k1-zkp, powering Confidential Transactions on Liquid. Let us proceed together apace. Onward. image

Proud to be a founding member of the @BTCconsortium. Bitcoin’s long-term security has always been core to what we do, from open-source research to practical post-quantum work like OP_CHECKSHRINCS. Supporting the independent developer community that keeps the network resilient is a natural extension of that mission. image

Everyone you've orange-pilled is still leaving their coins on an exchange. The best way to teach self-custody is to hand someone the keys. Jade Core makes it a five-minute conversation, not a lecture. Bring someone in this week https://store.blockstream.com/products/blockstream-jade-core @Leo_Usi.blossom.band/e07ff6681c18ef8338073ef644563ff4b76addb986818d163286387ad912e066.jpg" alt="image" loading="lazy">

Reusing a bitcoin address links your transactions and weakens your privacy. The Blockstream app gives you a fresh receive address every time, and your funds stay in self-custody from the moment you buy. Take back your privacy. Download the Blockstream app:

OP_CHECKSHRINCS uses one public key with two ways to spend. The first path keeps signatures small by having the device track how many times it has signed. The second path doesn't track anything and is always available as a safety net. If your device is lost or replaced, you restore with your recovery phrase and fall back to that second path. It's more expensive to spend from, but you are never locked out. This is how SHRINCS works. @Leo_Usi.blossom.band/49740ad2a9d86f9a2cd7912199400cfe94aa91fa1569cedb88f9b1a9050f3995.gif" alt="image" loading="lazy"> Read about the OP_CHECKSHRINCS opcode put forward by Blockstream Research and what it means for Bitcoin's post-quantum security:

Most people buy bitcoin first and secure it later. With Jade paired to the Blockstream app, every purchase lands straight in offline cold storage, secured by your hardware wallet from the very first transaction.

An unconfirmed transaction isn't lost, it's waiting its turn in the mempool, and the fee you paid is its place in line. In a hurry? Bump the fee in the Blockstream app to move up the queue.

Spending on the @Liquid Network is going near-instant. 0-conf brings safe-to-act-on transfers, now in public beta with a full release around the corner. And with the issuance cap removed, issuers can mint stablecoins and other Issued Assets at real-world scale. The full Liquid roadmap is in our Q2 update. image

Today, losing your hardware wallet is fine. Your recovery phrase gets you back in. In a post-quantum signing setup, the device also holds state: a running count of how many times it has signed. That state matters for security. SHRINCS is designed so that if the device is lost, the recovery phrase loads into a new one and falls back to a path that needs no state at all. The fallback needs no state, so a lost device is never a lost wallet. More expensive to spend from, but always accessible. Getting off an exchange shouldn't be hard. Jade Core is the simplest way to hold your own bitcoin, built for anyone taking self-custody for the first time. @Adam Back on the thinking behind it.

Satoshi chose secp256k1 for Bitcoin’s cryptography. Jonas Nick and Blockstream Research are among the co-maintainers of libsecp256k1, the library every Bitcoin node runs to implement it. Researching what comes next is a natural extension of that work.

The Blockstream Explorer API is home to one of the fastest ways to sync a Bitcoin wallet. With QuickSync, you send one descriptor and get the complete history back in a single response. Grab an API key and see it for yourself. 🔗 image

Supply chain attacks are real. Before you use a new Bitcoin hardware wallet, check the tamper-evident seal, then run a genuine check (if it has one). Jade performs a cryptographic handshake with Blockstream to confirm it's running genuine firmware. Verify first, full send self-custody second.

Q2 was Blockstream moving from research to release. Blockstream Research took post-quantum Bitcoin from a live deployment on the @Liquid Network to OP_CHECKSHRINCS, a signature opcode the whole network can evaluate. Blockstream Jade became a three-model lineup, with the new Jade Core turning self-custody into a five-minute move off an exchange. Liquid published a roadmap that puts 0-conf and a trust-minimized bridge on the calendar. Core Lightning strengthened node architecture with bwatch, while the Explorer API kept blockchain data fast and dependable at enterprise scale. Blockstream's Q2 2026 Quarterly Update is live. image

Bitcoin's neutrality is its edge. @Adam Back on why a decentralized asset with no company in control wins: rivals won't build on each other's chains, but everyone can build on Bitcoin.

Simplicity's site just got a full redesign. Simplicity lets you prove exactly how a contract behaves before it goes live. No surprise fees, no transactions failing mid-execution. The security guarantees are part of the language, not bolted on after. Live on the @Liquid Network mainnet, running real financial contracts, and built for the developers and institutions building high-assurance Bitcoin applications. image
