The best in Bitcoin, made Audible
Luke de Wolf spent years securing oil pipelines and power grids. Now he is applying that hardcore cybersecurity mindset to Bitcoin. We debated the very real security risks facing the network right now, and why treating it as critical infrastructure is fundamentally non-negotiable. The decisions we make today will decide if this system survives long-term. I sat down with Steve, Mechanic, and Jeff because someone needed to cut through the noise on Taproot, chain bloat, and real censorship vs. spam. Steve brought fresh data on network users right now. And Mechanic made the wildest case: the healthiest miners might be the ones willing to operate at a technical loss. We also tore apart the ETF flow obsession and looked at a wallet cracked by AI after eleven years. β€œTry to get a package into Iran. Can't do it. Try to get dollars into Iran. Not a chance in hell. Get Bitcoin into Iran? You don't do anything different. It's not even a thing that you have to do. It just works. And there's nothing Iran can do about it. Which is probably why they're being very serious about it from the Strait of Hormuz. Their position is: well, if we can't do anything about it, the U.S. government can't do anything about it. You know, what do you do? I really think that's the path to a Bitcoin standard. It's not that we've got super devotees, and we've explained Austrian economics to people, and someone has to be convinced that sound money is better than fiat money. Nah, it's just going to be the thing that kept working when everything else stopped.” Listen to Chat_169 - Bitcoin Proving its Case with @walker on Bitcoin Audible, available on all major platforms: πŸ”— Fountain: πŸ”— YouTube: πŸ”— Rumble: https://rumble.com/v7apfay-chat-169-bitcoin-proving-its-case-with-walker-america.html
β€œAll of monetary history actually explains all the wars. It explains all the conflicts. It explains why one country won and beat another country. But what do you hear about? The kings, the great battles. But, you know, the real mover was gold. The real story was that a currency couldn't sustain its level of inflation, or its level of fraud from its kingdom, as well as a competing kingdom could. The real stories are gunpowder. The real stories are technological as to what shaped the world. While the political and dramatic stories that we tell about the people and the events are brilliant and fun because they're human stories, largely, they are the consequential outcomes of built pressures from technological and monetary shifts.” Listen to Chat_169 - Bitcoin Proving its Case with @walker on Bitcoin Audible with @Guy Swann , available on all major platforms: πŸ”— Fountain: πŸ”— YouTube: πŸ”— Rumble: https://rumble.com/v7apfay-chat-169-bitcoin-proving-its-case-with-walker-america.html
Bitcoin is being embraced by the U.S. financial system and the Iranian regime at the exact same time. Both sides know they can use it without the other one threatening it. That puts it in an insanely unique place in a world where there are no other monies that work like that anymore. We spent decades telling an entire generation that if they just wait and work hard, they'll get the payout. Well, the payout got inflated away. Right now, everyone is arguing over generational wealth gaps, and John Carter breaks this down perfectly using a twisted version of the classic marshmallow experiment. His argument is devastating. It forces you to ask if high time preference is just a symptom of a society that broke its promises. Can sound money actually reverse the damage? Is a self-proclaimed Rothbardian actually running one of the most inflationary presidencies in Argentine history? It sounds crazy, but the data points directly to yes. We were promised a totally different approach to money, yet debt is soaring and the currency keeps diluting. The disconnect between his political rhetoric and the actual economic policy is staggering. In today's read, we take a dive into Milei's legacy so far. "I hope a substantial chunk of the network hashrate online is distributed into these low-energy states, building energy systems where hashrate is solving a utility function, not aiming to be a profitable mining operation. Meaning they're solving real problems for people's paychecks, they're solving real problems for people's load balancing, helping balance the grid, monetizing solar, and heating your home. In this sense, hashrate becomes synonymous with building energy infrastructure. That's my vision." ~ Tyler Stevens Listen to Hashing for Heat with Tyler Stevens on Bitcoin Audible with @Guy Swann , available on all major platforms: πŸ”— Fountain: https://fountain.fm/episode/y43OS1W8RB7xWM5eE8II πŸ”— YouTube: πŸ”— Rumble: https://rumble.com/v7a5xh6-chat-168-hashing-for-heat-with-tyler-stevens.html
"If it gets colder at night, the miner will ramp up 200, 300, or 400 watts. The miner's wattage is what's wiggling and the temperature of the house is what's flat, instead of the heat being flat and the temperature of the house wiggling." ~ Tyler Stevens Listen to Hashing for Heat with Tyler Stevens on Bitcoin Audible with @Guy Swann , available on all major platforms: πŸ”— Fountain: https://fountain.fm/episode/y43OS1W8RB7xWM5eE8II πŸ”— YouTube: πŸ”— Rumble: https://rumble.com/v7a5xh6-chat-168-hashing-for-heat-with-tyler-stevens.html
Did you know a quarter of global energy is used just for "comfort heat"? Imagine if we generated all that warm air and water using Bitcoin miners instead. I had an incredibly fun chat with Tyler Stevens about the hashrate heating movement and what happens to Bitcoin's security budget when normal people start heating their homes with ASICs. "The second you write down a passphrase or store it in a password manager, it switches from something you know to something you have. And that's a completely different security model where multisig, in my humble opinion, wins every time." ~ Seed Listen to Chat_167 - Why Your Keys Matter with @SeedSigner ("the man") on Bitcoin Audible with @Guy Swann , available on all major platforms: πŸ”— Fountain: https://fountain.fm/episode/afPM32LwtbzpLcqnJXdT πŸ”— YouTube: πŸ”— Rumble: https://rumble.com/v79tuv2-chat-167-why-your-keys-matter-with-seed.html
"With multisig, hardware wallets make less sense to me for your long-term setup because of the issue of hardware wallets storing a digital copy of your private keys. When you set that hardware wallet up, what's the first thing they have you do? Take out the card that came with the hardware wallet, write down these 12 or 24 words, and store them in a safe place. Even with a simple multisig, you end up having a lot of places where you need to hide things. For a simple 2-of-3, you now need six hiding places: three for the hardware wallets and three for the backups. My argument is that for your long-term cold storage, let the analog, physical copies of your private keys be the ones you worry about securing. Focus on those physical backups, because you are going to have to worry about how you're securing them anyway." ~ Seed Listen to Chat_167 - Why Your Keys Matter with @SeedSigner ("the man") on Bitcoin Audible with @Guy Swann , available on all major platforms: πŸ”— Fountain: https://fountain.fm/episode/afPM32LwtbzpLcqnJXdT πŸ”— YouTube: πŸ”— Rumble: https://rumble.com/v79tuv2-chat-167-why-your-keys-matter-with-seed.html
β€œIf you think of River or Gemini or Coinbase or whatever, think of all of those as silos and how people custody Bitcoin. If some sort of compromise were to come into the Bitcoin ecosystem at the private key generation level, that could create an incident that could set Bitcoin back by 10 or more years because it would be almost indistinguishable from a protocol compromise and that we would be talking about Bitcoin being hacked again and not individual custodians being hacked. So I think we need to decentralise how people do Bitcoin custody as much as possible and what better way by leveraging private freedom preserving open source software.” - Seed Listen to Chat_167 - Why Your Keys Matter with @SeedSigner ("the man") on Bitcoin Audible with @Guy Swann available on all major platforms: πŸ”— Fountain: https://fountain.fm/episode/afPM32LwtbzpLcqnJXdT πŸ”— YouTube: πŸ”— Rumble: https://rumble.com/v79tuv2-chat-167-why-your-keys-matter-with-seed.html
The reality where you own nothing and rent everything starts with broken money. I don't buy the narrative that normal people just aren't working hard enough to own things anymore. The truth is that zero interest rates gave the ultra-wealthy a blank check to corner the market on productive assets. It's entirely structural, and it is robbing us blind. Want to know the exact mechanics of how they use cheap debt to price you out of ownership forever? I lay it all out in Guy's Take_107. Ever wonder why modern society produces so much worthless junk instead of civilization-defining architecture? It all comes down to proof of work. Today I'm reading a chapter from Wyatt’s book The Bitcoinization of Finance, his latest case for tying the real economy back to sound money. And I took it a step further: if you strip away that foundation, society eventually just dies. We started the mics with the intention of talking Bitcoin, but things went sideways fast. Between AI acting like a corporate filter and the absurdity of the St. Louis Fed trying to own Bitcoin price data, it was a wild session. Plus, we actually get into Steve's UTXOracle, the status of Bitcoin Core cluster mempool changes, and the challenges of renting hashrate. Oh, and don't miss the hot take on why the "Quantum threat" to Bitcoin is mostly just a sad marketing ploy! Why did humans start using shells or gold long before they had "efficient markets"? Nick Szabo’s latest essay The Fabric of Desires explains the ancient link between high-stakes life events and the need for a store of value. I firmly believe the worst thing we ever did was accept "elastic money" as our economic savior. People constantly point to the crashes of 1929 and 2008 as proof we need financial intervention. But the reality says the exact opposite. Constant manipulation isn't saving the system, it is just keeping a broken machine on life support. Here is my take on the massive lie we all bought into. We constantly complain that fiat money is completely broken, but we still trust it to tell us exactly what Bitcoin is worth. It really makes no sense. I recently read this great piece by Craig Tindale, and he completely nails this hypocrisy. If the ruler is bent, stop using it to measure the table. Escaping the fiat frame is a lot harder than just buying BTC. "You should not just do what you're told, or you will literally get the normal. You'll have cancer; you'll have heart disease. If you do what they say is healthy – the things that we believe are correct and are normal – will produce normal results, and we are the least healthy. We are the most sick and diseased generation in the history of this country. If those are the results you want, then do what the healthcare system tells you to do. I think a lot of people are waking up to that." - Guy Swann Listen to The Great Distraction: Epstein vs. Quantum in Bitcoin with Rob Wallace of @Bitcoin News on Bitcoin Audible with @Guy Swann - available on all major platforms: πŸ”— Fountain: https://fountain.fm/episode/fRkg022wzHHlxPipQaZM πŸ”— YouTube: πŸ”— Rumble: https://rumble.com/v791tuo-chat-166-the-great-distraction-epstein-vs.-quantum-in-bitcoin-with-rob-wall.html
