The world should hear how the Islamic Republic destroys love in the most violent way.
Saleheh Akbari and Ahmad Khodai were a young couple, both mountain climbers, deeply in love, just beginning their life together. When protests erupted, they opened their home to the wounded. Saleheh, an operating room technician, treated injured protesters while Ahmad helped connect them in secret.
On the night of January 12, security forces stormed their home to arrest him. They waited inside. When Ahmad returned, they beat him in front of her. Saleheh tried to defend him. One of them shot her directly in the heart. She died in front of his eyes.
They put a gun to his head and forced him into silence.
After that came detention, threats, forced lies, and relentless psychological torture. They sent him images of her violated body. They called her death “suicide.” They kept breaking him, even arresting him at her grave.
Ahmad tried to speak. He only wanted the world to hear what they had done to her.
Today, after 3 month of pressure and unbearable grief, he took his own life.
This is how the Islamic Republic destroys people, not just by killing, but by tearing love apart until nothing remains.
