New to this and trying to understand. When I post this and only have one follower does only that one person see it or does everyone’s see it?

🦠 Raising Awareness: Alpha-Gal Syndrome (AGS)
Most people have never heard of Alpha-Gal Syndrome, but it’s something that has completely changed our lives. My wife was diagnosed after being bitten by a tick and developing symptoms that took years to properly identify. Even today, many doctors aren’t familiar with AGS — only about 25% say they’d feel comfortable diagnosing it.
Alpha-Gal Syndrome is a severe allergy to a sugar molecule found in mammals (called alpha-gal). It’s caused by a tick bite that triggers your immune system to see mammal products — like beef, pork, dairy, gelatin, and even hidden ingredients in medications — as dangerous.
Unlike most allergies, reactions from alpha-gal are delayed by 6–8 hours, which makes it extremely hard to trace. And it’s unpredictable — you could eat meat three times without issue, and on the fourth, go into anaphylaxis. That’s why it’s called an “anytime allergy,” not an “every time” allergy. Follow-on tick bites after contracting AGS can make the allergy even stronger. Some research also suggests that mosquitoes and chiggers may potentially transmit alpha-gal, though this is still under study.
For my wife, this affects every part of daily life — food, medicine, even air exposure in restaurants that cook meat. Many medical and cosmetic products contain hidden mammal ingredients. Even water filtered through bone char can trigger a reaction. We’ve had to change how we cook, travel, and even handle intimacy. There is no cure — the only management is strict avoidance.
Some people are so fume-reactive that they must take extreme precautions. For example, I know a man who has to wear a respirator just to go outside because cooking fumes or ambient meat smoke can trigger a severe reaction. That illustrates just how serious AGS can be.
Ticks can also carry many other diseases — Lyme, ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and more. I’ve been bitten three times this year myself. I’ve sent ticks to a lab in Colorado called Ticknology, which tests for many tickborne diseases (though not alpha-gal). They charge $40 per test batch, whether that’s one tick or several mailed together, and offer an optional expedited service. Both times I used them, my results came back negative — and the process was straightforward.
If you spend time outdoors or live in a rural area like we do, take prevention seriously. Daily tick checks are essential — ticks often crawl on you for a while before biting, and you usually won’t feel the bite itself. I often feel ticks crawling in my hair and can remove them early, which helps prevent exposure. Sawyer makes a permethrin spray for clothing that helps repel ticks. Once dry, it keeps your clothes tick-toxic for most of the season (or until multiple washes). Just note: it’s toxic to cats when wet, and I wouldn’t expose them to treated fabrics even after drying. They also make a version for dogs, though I haven’t tried that one yet. We have four dogs, and they bring ticks inside — so staying indoors alone isn’t enough protection.
Another major challenge is the lack of proper labeling laws. Many people are working to get Congress to require full disclosure of mammal-derived ingredients in foods, medications, and medical products. My wife often has to call manufacturers directly with the NDC number (National Drug Code) to find out if a medication contains mammal ingredients. We’ve even had doctors tell her something was “safe,” only to later find out it wasn’t. Sadly, we’ve also heard responses like “we don’t have that here” or “you’re just depressed.” That’s the reality too many alpha-gal patients face — being dismissed because the medical system hasn’t caught up.
If you spend time outdoors, please use tick precautions, check yourself and your pets daily, and spread awareness. A single tick bite can change your life forever.
The next time you hear about someone with alpha-gal, please remember: it’s real, serious, and life-altering. Awareness, empathy, and advocacy can prevent future cases — and maybe save lives.

Hello All new here. First Post!
I have not logged into FB since 2011 and have used zero social media since. ( Comment sections tried to keep me informed …well kinda) I have been listening to Bitcoin podcasts and learned of NOSTR. Bitcoin has given me hope again. NOSTR gives me that same kinda hope in a different way. In 2020 I watched as so many got canceled for “thinking” and saying those thoughts. Just as 2008 was a cause for the effect of Bitcoin, Covid showed more issues that we needed to ponder and solve.
I don’t know all the rules of social media and may press buttons and make myself look stupid, but I wanted to be here and be a part of this and support it because I have been awakened finally to the fact that decentralization is the way!
