The world is on fire and everybody has an agenda. It can seem like the scale of joyous experiences vs painful ones has been knocked off balance for much of the world. In times like these, it’s important to remind yourself that perspective truly is everything. It’s the single most essential thing - and the ONLY thing - you have any real control of. It’s a thin line to walk on, that of a regular, everyday person. The harsh realities of the world are in your face on every screen, in 24/7 repetition, and yet most of what you witness has no direct immediate impact on your daily life. If you ignore it, you’re heartless and lack compassion. If you throw yourself into, your life is suddenly no longer your own, your pain suddenly isn’t tragic enough to matter compared with what those on the other side of the world are facing. I’m here to remind you that this is your life. Do you really care or are you pretending to care out of fear of shame? Are you truly unaffected or are you pretending not to be disgusted as you splurge someone else’s rent costs on the very device that only exists because of children in actual slavery? Figure out your perspective, what it stems from and whether or not it matches your inner feelings and morals. Authenticity is the key. You will never be liked by all, so at least be liked for the real you.

As our world becomes increasingly more artificial, it’s of the utmost importance to be authentic. Whoever you are, whatever your beliefs and values, the integrity of our collective reality depends on you existing exactly as yourself. Get to know yourself outside of the perceptions and labels others have of you. Be more than just a reflection of the world around you. Gain a deep understanding of your specific kind of beauty, ugly and everything in between. The only way to truly love and accept others is to do so for yourself.

Sometimes it feels like we are living in a dystopian horror novel. I look around and think how the hell am I supposed offer spiritual advice and instruction in this kind of climate? Is what I’m offering even helping? Whether you’re spiritual or not, no matter your position on the multitude of causes in need of attention and transformation, I’m sure you’ve felt it, too. When the waves of my emotions rise to high-tide and I find myself drowning in anxiety and self-doubt like this, I remind myself of my position, my intentions, and my personal responsibility. I ask: 1. Are my current status, level of influence, and privileges being used to the highest extent? Am I making the changes I am capable of making? 2. Am I focusing on doing active good with my advantaged? Are my intentions positive and focused on helping my cause rather than defeating my perceived enemies? 3. What are my moral, ethical, logical and spiritual responsibilities to these matters? Are my actions in alignment with my personal responsibilities? If one of my answers to these questions is “no,” I know where to focus. I retake my power and transmute my anxiety into action, or at the very least, a plan. We all have so much to share and to offer, and we all are in need of receiving, but there remains so much division about artificial concepts. I’ve always had a natural curiosity for all things spiritual, even as a young child. Over the years, I’ve collected spiritual knowledge and experiences that have transformed the way I experience and live life. I absorbed this knowledge joyfully, and I’ve realized that - paired with my passion and love for the written word - it was part of my purpose: to share what I’ve learned and experienced.
