#Tau pathology is a common denominator for #neurodegenerative diseases such as #Alzheimer’s disease or frontotemporal dementia, but selectively targeting toxic tau remains a challenge. Here, Gaikwad et al. developed a conformation-specific antibody for tau and demonstrated selective targeting of toxic tau aggregates in patient-derived tissue and tau oligomers in vitro.

The association of #gut #microbial features with type 2 #diabetes (T2D) has been inconsistent due in part to the complexity of this disease and variation in study design. Even in cases in which individual microbial species have been associated with T2D, mechanisms have been unable to be attributed to these associations based on specific microbial strains.

Poor #sleep quality greatly impairs quality of life and accelerates deterioration in patients with #Parkinson disease (PD), but current remedies remain limited. #Acupuncture, used as an adjunctive therapy with anti-Parkinson medications, has shown positive effects in patients with PD. However, high-quality clinical evidence to support the effectiveness of acupuncture for patients with PD and poor sleep quality is lacking.

Differential diagnosis of #dementia remains a challenge in neurology due to symptom overlap across etiologies, yet it is crucial for formulating early, personalized management strategies. Here, we present an artificial intelligence (#AI) model that harnesses a broad array of data, including demographics, individual and family medical history, medication use, neuropsychological assessments, functional evaluations and multimodal neuroimaging, to identify the etiologies contributing to dementia in individuals.

#Urticaria has been tentatively linked to #cancer, but epidemiological evidence supporting this link is sparse and conflicting. We therefore conducted a population-based cohort study using healthcare databases of the Danish population (January 1980–December 2022). We followed 87,507 people for a median of 10.1 years after first hospital contact for urticaria.

Some cohort studies have reported a decline in dementia prevalence and incidence over time, although these findings have not been consistent across studies. We reviewed evidence on changes in dementia prevalence and incidence over time using published population-based cohort studies that had used consistent methods with each wave and aimed to quantify associated changes in risk factors over time using population attributable fractions (PAFs).

We aimed to examine #sex-specific associations between sex- and #thyroid-related hormones and the risk of metabolic dysfunction-associated #fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in patients with type 2 #diabetes mellitus (T2DM)

Moderate-to-vigorous physical #activity (MVPA) improves #glucose levels; however, whether its timing affects daily glycemic control remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the impact of lifestyle MVPA timing on daily glycemic control in #sedentary adults with #overweight/obesity and metabolic impairments.

#Obesity, associated with the intake of a high-fat #diet (HFD), and anxiety are common among those living in modern urban societies. Recent studies suggest a role of microbiome-gut-brain axis signaling, including a role for brain serotonergic systems in the relationship between HFD and #anxiety

#Olfactory impairment is common in older adults and may be associated with adverse #cardiovascular health; however, empirical evidence is sparse. We examined olfaction in relation to the risk of #coronary heart disease (CHD), #stroke, and #congestive heart failure (CHF).

Risk factors for #cerebrovascular disease in adulthood are well known. However, research on individuals’ risk factors throughout their life span has been limited. This prospective cohort study aims to determine the effect of body mass index (#BMI) and its changes in #adolescence and young #adulthood on early onset cerebrovascular disease.

In patients surviving #stroke, approximately 15% and 60% exhibit concurrent #diabetes mellitus and #overweight/obesity, respectively, necessitating heightened secondary prevention efforts. Despite glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) demonstrating improved outcomes for those with diabetes mellitus or obesity, their underutilization persists among eligible individuals

#Polycystic ovary syndrome is a common endocrine condition in women of #reproductive age. Its manifestations include #androgen excess and other hormonal changes, #menstrual cycle alterations, infertility, and metabolic abnormalities. Artemisinins are plant-derived compounds that are best known for their antimalarial properties but have also been shown to have some beneficial metabolic effects

Insight into associations between the #gut #microbiome with metabolism and #aging is crucial for tailoring interventions to promote healthy #longevity. In a discovery cohort of 10,207 individuals aged 40–93 years, we used 21 metabolic parameters to classify individuals into five clusters, termed metabolic multimorbidity clusters (MCs), that represent different metabolic subphenotypes
