We had an amazing encounter with a Bearded vulture (Lammergeier) yesterday in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Of course I had the small point & press camera rather than my usual birding lens and camera. The sky was awful for bird photography. But what mattered was the encounter. A visit back to middle England for me this week. It's nice to see friends and family but I don't enjoy the crowds, costs and stresses, which are somewhat alien to me living in rural Spain. What England does have though is an interesting, beautiful and historical network of canal waterways. A heritage from its industrial past. Patagonia Image 3 One year we arrived at the Cirque de las Altares during a blizzard. We hastily made camp and tried to warm up in our tents and sleeping bags. We hadn't really appreciated the wonderful situation we were in until next morning when we woke up to reasonably clear skies and the magnificent Cerro Torre coated in a thick layer of rime ice. #patagonia #landscape #landscapephotography #mountains

The Southern Patagonia Ice Field is the largest expanse of ice outside the polar regions. It extends southwards for approximately 350 kilometres (220 miles). In places it is up to 80km (50 miles) wide. This ice mass feeds dozens of glaciers feeding into both Chile and Argentina. This image was taken on a grey cloudy day where we could hardly tell the difference between land and sky. A day scrambling on the wonderful peak of Peñon de la Mata north of Granada. The summit is surrounded by cliffs with only one hiking route to the top. Lots of possibilities for exploration. The Cerro Huenes group is in the Cumbres Verdes range west of the Sierra Nevada. The start is just 15 minutes drive south from the Granada ring road. The route provides pleasant hiking on generally good trails over numerous mountains, returning through forested hillsides to the start The path ascends over the minor summit of Cerro del Sol and onto the first peak, Pico de la Carne (1809m). Although the hillsides here are steep, the path is well-graded and the summit is easily reached via a short easy scramble on the right of the summit rocks. The path continues to Cerro Gordo (1809m) which lies 1km away to the NE. The route to the reigning peak Cerro Huenes lies 1km to the NW. #hiking #mountains #spain
