Post for November 8, 2024 It's post-election America, and it seems a new mandate has emerged. They say there's nothing new under the sun, and we’ve certainly seen this cultural swing before, from the so-called 'progressive' movement to the 'conservative' movement. My view? America is a Constitutional Republic. Progressive thinkers often use the word Democracy because it resonates with emotions of sensitivity and empathy. But classic democracy means rule by the mob, while a Constitutional Republic is grounded in rule of law. Just look at the last eight years to see the difference. Which do you prefer?" Balancing our emotions with sound logic and reasoning is challenging enough in everyday life. When it comes to our Constitution, it seems few have read it deeply. Progressives view it as a relic of another time. Yet I believe it was written with clear foresight about human nature and government. Centralized power, in any form, leads to abuse. Not exactly a revelation and you don’t need a PhD or high IQ to see that, just a rational mind. And yet, humans famously abandon sanity when pushed. That’s enough for today.
