I am someone who struggles with suicidal ideation. In my struggles I have found solace in working 1:1 with a lot of people who are suicidal. One thing that I am continually bothered by is how everyone who doesn’t struggle with suicidal ideation and even people who do not know you at all feel so strongly that you should continue to live. I firmly believe in autonomy in both life and in death. We do not need to be forcing people to continue to live if they do not wish to. Life should have a guilt and pain free opt out button. I will forever advocate for adequate mental health services to those who need. But once someone has made up their mind and every resource has been exhausted for them—stop forcing them to live because you cannot familiarize yourself with the idea that death is a very natural part of life and should be a choice. Don’t worry…I am not having suicidal ideation at this time. It’s just a side effect of PTSD it would seem and I manage it alright. 🫶🏻

“New social media app” is a trending keyword right now on TikTok. If you are making content there about NOSTR be sure that you are leveraging this keyword in your content as it’s being searched for and you will reach more 🫶🏻 @Jessica Chasteen just a heads up too in case you’re not using it—I haven’t looked. You just happen to be the only one I know creating content about it there.

“Usability is about people and how they understand and use things, not about technology” -Steve Krug (Author of Don’t Make Me Think) At the conclusion of my first day on NOSTR I am left feeling that there’s still a massive usability and UX issue. I briefly talked about this with @The Daniel 🖖 today. People do not like to think. But, in addition to that, we have an entire generation still alive today that has yet to master taking a selfie on their flip phone. Mass adoption is only going to happen when usability issues are solved. And in order for that to happen…there has to be bridge builders. And maybe mass adoption isn’t the goal. That’s fine, too. In which case carry on as it is. But if mass adoption is the underlying goal then this usability issue has to be resolved. I am a nerd and I love nerds but we simply cannot have nerds trying to teach the masses…it rarely works. We need people who can read what the nerds say and break that down ELI5 style and get it to the masses. Who are those people? Who are the bridge builders? Can you tag ‘em? #asknostr #learning

Someone here called the notion of privilege ridiculous today. I can’t remember their exact words and promptly muted but do people not understand privilege? Is that still a thing in 2024? If you are still denying the existence of privilege then you lack basic humanity. If you are American and deny that you have privilege over humans (including children) working in awful conditions around the world so that you can have basic goods then you are ignorant. If you deny that you have privilege over those being wiped out in genocide then you are ignorant. This list just goes on and on. You have privileges in so many ways. And people born in countries better than the US have privileges over you. Socialized medicine is a fucking privilege. Access to food and housing in countries that take care of their homeless is a fucking privilege. How are people still denying privilege? You are benefiting from the system that maintains it whether you acknowledge the existence of it or not. Privilege doesn’t mean you never suffered.
