This weekend I started to reactivate my #YouTube channel #Flutter Explained again. Currently, the children are big enough that allows me to get going again a bit more on that topic. But this time some things should change, for example I want to earn some money this time... Even tough €10-€ 30 / month is nice, it will not keep me long time over water. That is why I started first with "income streams" Therefore, I set up three things that I actually did not know before. 1. A site where people can book my expertise. 2. I created a newsletter with 3. There is a site called https://passionfroot.com/ which allows sponsors to get in contact with me. 4. These things are set up and linked in my homepage Because I only have 4–6 hours per week for the channel and my side hustle I have to make sure that I do not give up, ... again. Therefore, my next step is to prepare at least 4 videos in advance that will be released biweekly, to make sure I actually want that and can do it long term instead of again "failing" delivering regularly. Wish me luck 😉 and I keep you posted if it was a success or not. #work #freelance #code #programming #flutter

When playing Helldiver's or Broforce I always thought America would bring democracy to each part of the universe by using force. I never thought they would have to bring it into their own country.

I had some fun with web development and created a small nostr CV site where I can grep the events that are related to professional achievements of that account. Not sure what features I would like to implement, but I like the idea of a nostr CV. The best part is I learned quite a lot about the nostr protocol and how it actually works under the hood. Currently, my idea is that you enter a npub public key, and it shows for the relevant person (1), badges (58, 30008), articles (30023) and acknowledgments (1984/122). What would you like to see on a site like this? image #nostr #professional #badges #learning #oss

84 hours of internet outage in #Iran, ... It is just crazy how hard it is to get your freedom back.

I have family in Iran, I really hope they are well 😟. No information since 12 hours is quite crazy. I recommended them @npub17slp...w9r8 but I guess they were too late to download it. Let's hope that something will change to the better and the country can maybe flourish.

It's crazy how hard it is in Germany to get 50 € of SATs without KyC. You rely on decentralized platforms and transfer money and you need some pre capital. Very weird that no coiners make it so hard to get even the smallest amount of BTC.

I am now officially a 'real' programmer using n im for my coding and yesterday I had the revelation when it felt the first time as productive as Vscode when not a tad bit more productive. It is crazy how steep the learning curve is but the benefit of the same env. on my two MacBooks, the Gaming rig, the home server, my wife's laptop, my daughter's laptop and at work is just fantastic 😍 What is your favorite #nvim trick?

Crazy how much I love Linux, I switched a couple a week ago back to #Bazzite a Gaming Distro (mostly to play X4). But interesting enough when I tried to develop on the machine it just makes fun, especially because you will need to set up containers for every move you take. Therefore, I always have a clean development env. At first, it really restricted me, and I was multiple times thinking about to change my environment. But now after some playtime I love how everything works together. Also, my vim setup is finally complete and works quite nice out of the box.

Ah back home on #Linux <3, who knew that it is important to have a keyboard with wire in your home. All just to get rid of Windows 11.

How seem less it is to pay with lightning leaves me in awe every time. I paid for mullvard yesterday and got some sats via a p2p exchange @Robosats . Even though it is a bit complicated to finally get some sats it is a great way to avoid kyc. I also checked out bisq but I needed it anyway in lightning also it was way harder for small amounts ~30€ because of higher fees.

Day 6 / 712 Today I had a short session with some click events, I learned how to select an element that I show in #Godot and show a small UI for that selected element. This allows me now to select for example my "Corral" and send the cows to the next location. This will be my task for tomorrow.

I don't know, but all that AI layoffs and AI development aka 'vibe coding' give me the feeling that there is coming a huge wave of more work for me in the future. Maybe I am too optimistic, but there seem to be golden times for software engineers ahead. #developers #code #programming

Day 4/712 A break, I watched more tutorials throughout the day but I am too tired to really do something.

Day 3 / 712 Camera navigation Yesterday I had a blast by creating some models that are probably total overkill, so for the corral and the pastures I decided to make just colorful circles for now. Then I thought, let's invest some time in the camera and understand how I could best make it move. And after some research, I found some quite nice tutorial videos from Nanotech Gamedev about #RTS cameras. This helped me to get up to speed and showed me again that we have to take everything into account. Also, I felt like I am currently in tutorial hell that I have to escape rather quickly and learn by adding my own stuff. The camera is now moving already, just not as "smooth" as I would love to have it. But I can zoom, mouse pan and pan with the keyboard. So it's basically already done, just needs some fine-tuning. #GameDevChallange #programming #godot

Day 2 / 712 Today I started with energy to create some models that I could use for my demo purposes. And I started with two main characters, the #cowboys and the cattle. And because I am still in the finding phase and want to discover lots of things, I played a bit with all kinds of elements, also with the world environment in #Godot. I still fight a bit with all the sub sub sub menus (World Environment -> Background -> Mode -> Sky -> Sky -> Sky Material 😵‍💫 ) but I guess it is just because usually I am more the #NVIM type of guy and less with tooling in general. I am also again surprised how much "you have" to do yourself in Game Development, I somehow always think there is already a finished solution for this, like there is already a camera and I just "click" somewhere it just works. But you write all the scripts yourself, like movement for example. Also, LLM tried to explain to me that for an Isometric view, it would be beneficial to have a Camera Rig with a Camera inside. Not sure if that is how I want to do it. This also needs more discovery. In general, I still enjoy my path forward and cannot wait to see finally something moving. image

Day 1 / 712 Today, my game dev journey started. I created my first draft of a GDD with all the core features I would like to have in the game. - Cattle Management - City Management - Cowboy Management Besides of that, I thought about a story that could hold the game together in a very rough way. A historical view of the cattle farming in the 1800s. Adding some cool stuff into it like iconic characters like "Billy the Kid" or even Arthur Morgan from #rdr as a sidekick. After I had my first draft, I started to play around in #Godot and got stuck by Materials and the Material Maker tool and how I could get the textures into my scene. Which is not a lot, but now I have a pane with a bunch of materials to play around. Tomorrow, my next step would be to get some low poly characters in the scene, like a #cowboy. image #gamedev
