This week at Bitcoin Ekasi (7–20 July 2026), we paused our Bitcoin Diploma and Postgraduate classes during the school holiday break while our students are away. This has given our team the opportunity to focus on other important projects. We're excited to share that the SateNet internet café structure has now been completed. Our next step is to brand the space with the @Fedi and SateNet logos before opening it to the community. We can't wait to welcome local residents when the internet café opens, made possible through Fedi's support. This week at Bitcoin Ekasi has been a productive one. As schools closed for the Term 2 holidays, the students have been spending more time at the Bitcoin Ekasi Centre learning about Bitcoin. We're also building a Bitcoin StateNet internet setup at our thrift store to provide affordable connectivity for the community. Many residents in Bitcoin Ekasi struggle with the high cost of mobile data, so this initiative will help make Bitcoin education and services more accessible. A big thank you to @Fedi for making this project possible. Your support is helping us build stronger Bitcoin infrastructure for the community. ⚡🧡

Another great week at Bitcoin Ekasi! We continued running our Bitcoin Ekasi Center with diploma and postgraduate students, helping them learn about Bitcoin and its real-world use. We also had the opportunity to host Black Sheep Media, who came to see the work we're doing on the ground. They were pleasantly surprised by the impact and progress of our project. What I appreciate most is that they are a local production team telling local stories. It's exciting to see the world taking an interest in what we're building here in Ekasi and the positive change Bitcoin is creating in our community.

Bitcoin is designed for the next generation. Seeing my 4-year-old son spending sats from his own wallet brings me so much joy 😀 Giving children cash these days can easily lead to them buying things they shouldn’t. That’s why I’m teaching my son how to use a Bitcoin wallet from a young age helping him grow up understanding money in the digital age. ₿

This week at Bitcoin Ekasi was a strong one. We had shack owners attending their Bitcoin education sessions, and Bitcoin Diploma students showing up consistently for classes in the first cohort of the program throughout the week. We also celebrated Bitcoin Pizza Day with the community, where residents bought pizza using their Fedi Bitcoin wallets—simple, practical Bitcoin use in action. On top of that, we hosted visitors from Bitcoin Karoo, which added great energy and connection to the work. We also did shop visits to merchants accepting Bitcoin, just checking in to make sure everything is running smoothly and that there are no issues with their wallets or payments. A full week of learning, community, and real Bitcoin usage in Ekasi.

This week at Bitcoin Ekasi has been busy in a good way. We’ve continued working with local merchants, helping people understand Bitcoin better, and solving small day-to-day challenges that come with building a circular economy in the township. For me, the most important part is seeing the community slowly gain confidence using sats in real life buying, selling, and learning together. The work is not always easy, but every week we see progress, and that keeps us motivated to continue building.
