@Troy Cross and Kyle Schneps trace how a single non-peer-reviewed claim became the sole source cited in a letter from 70 environmental organizations to Congress.
That letter triggered congressional hearings, a Biden administration executive order, and an official government report, with no one along the way checking whether the original claim was correct or not.

@Troy Cross explains something most people don’t know about landfills: they leak methane constantly, and methane traps heat far more effectively than CO2.
Bitcoin miners have started showing up at those sites. Capture the gas, burn it in generators, use the electricity to mine. The methane was venting either way. Now there’s a buyer for it.
This is the part of the energy story that rarely makes the coverage, and it’s why we put it in the film.

"Is Bitcoin harmful or helpful to the environment, or is it somewhere in the middle?"
That's the question @Daniel Batten asked himself before diving into one of the most comprehensive research projects into bitcoin mining.

Why did @alana go all in to produce and direct this documentary project entirely on her own? Because she needed to know if mining could really lift people out of energy poverty around the world. If Bitcoin mining could really have that kind of impact.
Seemed like an important enough question to answer.
In the four years she’s been working on this, many people have offered her a hand, expertise, financing and even a shoulder to cry on and it is the total of all of your contributions that has lead us to where we are today.
We stand on your collective shoulders, thank you 🙏

Getting ready to take Dirty Coin to Ventana Sur in Argentina next month. 😎
