One thing we have to do to make Nostr a good place to be is to make it welcoming. There are a lot of decent folks that would enjoy it here, but the world is used to having EVERYTHING handed to them with a single click. Whether its with a Galaxy or an iPhone or a laptop or desktop, there are ways for almost anyone with internet access to join Nostr. When they get here, people need to be welcomed and feel happy. If we’re condescending to people who have a different brand of phone or operating system, we’re giving them an excuse to leave. If we see somebody hasn’t set up a wallet, let’s meet that person where they are. Offer to help them set one up, step by step, or suggest a Nostr app with one that’s built in. Let’s not take for granted that we understand how Nostr works. There are a lot of cool folks out there that would enjoy it here, but it seems like too much hassle to learn.
That’s what I originally thought was different about Nostr - there was more people who made stuff. Not necessarily 2D art, but building things, solving problems, using their brains to come up with creative solutions to stuff. I can draw and paint and sew (a little), but I don’t know shit about computers or how to build a house. But now I know some real people that do know about those things, thanks to Nostr. I started to hear whispers of the Web of Trust concept before I understood what Nostr even was. I literally thought he had invented a new internet, which essentially is what Nostr IS. I’m creative in one area, but there are so many others here that are creative in other ways. There aren’t many of us, which is fine. Let’s keep appreciating our creative frens here!! image View quoted note →
Good morning everyone! I took a bit of time off of nostr and came back to find a new trend of people talking about how not a lot of people are using nostr. A year ago, there weren’t many people using nostr. The difference was that most people were excited that this was a new option for interacting with others and were proud of its community. There was a ton of ridiculous bitcoin-themed AI-generated pictures. People were staring little businesses, like a craft fair that cost nothing to sign up for. I found Nostr a little overwhelming to navigate at first, because it was so different from what i expected. But reaching out to #asknostr for technical questions and getting immediate answers was the thing that really blew my mind. People here had a tangible sense of community and were happy to help each other out. I tried my hand at selling handmade things like roll-up holders for pens and gadgets, which i posted on #penroll I posted stuff on #artstr . I bought some pecan butter/bars from @Oshi (推し) and a belt from @Leathermint . I went to a Nostr Valley event and met some of you in person and had a great time. It really seemed like the folks here were happy about NOT having a bazillion people and bots swarming about and ranting uselessly. Now here we are a year later, I took a little break and came back to Nostr and it seems like folks are bummed out that there aren’t tons of users and bots. I assure you, there are plenty of bots. But the excitement of having a different type of option for interacting has deflated, even though a ton of exciting development is still going on. There aren’t a billion people here and there never will be. Thats a good thing. The majority of people will not come here. The reason is that a majority of people aren’t on here already. That’s just how the world works.
Everybody got tired of Jack bots so we’ve got elon bots now
