So, for my lunch break today, I put one of my dogs on a leash, like I always do, because she refuses to come in sometimes (rescue -- more of a stress thing than a game, I think). I let all three of them out, and came into the kitchen to heat up some chili.
Well, a few minutes later, I look out, and she's dug under the fence. Somehow, this leash, which often catches on things IN the yard, is avoiding snagging anything, and she's running around the brambles and downed branches being a menace. I ran out with no shirt on, slippers, and sweatpants (the work from home uniform), and proceed to yell her name, going back and forth across multiple houses worth of wooded space behind all the neighbor's yards -- just hoping she won't go all the way out to the state highway.
She did get into the backyard of the last house before that highway, but I do think that she's scared enough of cars that we were safe to begin with, but it's hard to tell. I was trying to find ways to corral her, but nothing worked -- even a tennis ball, which is like her crack.
Eventually she ended up running along the narrow strip between the chainlink fence and the chicken wire fence we used to rely on, and I was able to get in her way so she had nowhere to go and grabbed the leash.
Got her back to the gate, opened it up, and of course the other two dogs ran out. Thankfully they listen better, but still, annoying.
Suffice to say, my dog dug a tunnel to get out of a fenced in enclave, ran about freely for awhile, and then released the other dogs she was in an enclave with.
I'd be annoyed, but it occurred to me that I've no choice but to be proud of my little Hamas doggy.
I wonder if any of the neighbors saw me out there getting caught up in the brambles all shirtless like...
