Day 1 of the engine repower. Built this prototype to suss out the alignment with the shaft. There was too big of an angle to the shaft so we had to grind off part of the surface to try and get it in alignment. Now we are waiting for the resin on the new mounts to dry and then we will test out the prototype again, which will be about 24 hours. 👩‍🔧 They might have to cut it again for it to be perfectly aligned. Once this process is done we will get the crane and put the engine in!

After a whole lot of perseverance, we FINALLY got our antique engine out. This was a huge stress test on our mainsheet, toppling lift, mast…etc., but also on our relationship lol. 🙈 I hand-cranked it out with a winch and it was a bit dodgy, but hey it worked and we got it done. 💪 This engine is from 1979 so it had a good run, but ever since we purchased the sailboat in 2022 we’ve had issues. The first was on our very first outing and the exhaust riser was so corroded it broke and disconnected from the rest of the exhaust system. Next, was the starter motor, then fuel lines, and then a bleeding screw broke and we finally threw in the towel. I’m really excited for a shiny new Yanmar tho. Praying the installation goes well and we will be out on the big blue soon. 🙏
