Kids need security, they do not need you to be “financially free”. By all means, set a goal for what it takes to reach that level of security you will provide. But there are multiple ways to get there: supportive extended families are unmatched here - and you cannot buy them. Always remember: there are serious opportunity costs to waiting to have kids. Raising children in your 20s is likely infinitely easier than if you are older. But more importantly, the longer you wait, the less time you get to spend with them.
