Building, slimy, cooling and astringent
The mucilage or "slime" inside the okra pods lubricate the large intestine to facilitate digestion. It reduces bloating, flatulence and stomach ache. It relives dryness in the joints
High in fiber and anti inflammatory, it alleviates constipation and diarrhea. It soothes and cools, providing relief from acid reflux, diverticulitis/diverticulosis, gastritis and stomach ulcers.
Also, it supports the immune system and is antioxidant, antidiabetic, and anti cancerous. It promotes collagen production (improving skin texture and tone), improves calcium absorption, promotes normal cholesterol levels, and promotes healthy eyesight.
The spices used in preparation will facilitate and amplify therapeutic benefits and dosha balancing.
We made this grounding Vata recipe, in my Cooking class today. It emphasizes the sweet, sour, and salty tastes.
