Painting "alla prima" is one of the hardest things to do. Yet it's what gives me the most satisfaction. One session. One breath. No pauses. No second thoughts. But it's not spontaneity. It's the opposite. Because before that session, I've already painted that painting a hundred times in my head. I've tried every brushstroke. Mixed every color. Seen every possible mistake.
