Designed this garden for my parents five years ago and it has been wonderfully maintained! My dad grows raspberries, blackberries and tends a tiny vineyard. Mom grew up on a 160 acre homestead farm and loves her vegetable garden (this is probably the smallest it has ever been), but is more into flowers these days. (before pic from April 2019, after pic is today)
Proud dad moment: My grandfather had a stroke before I was born and passed away when I was 9. I'm the oldest of 4 grandkids and the only one who has memories of him. Both mine and my wife's parents are septuagenarian so even with good healthcare access the chances that they will live to see my children's teenage years is slim. For the past four months my toddler has been able to wake up and play with a healthy grandparent each day! I never had this opportunity when I was a kid (my wife fortunately did!) and it has not been easy to facilitate considering we live 1000s of miles from either set of grandparent. If you have the opportunity to do this for your parents and your kids, I couldn't encourage it enough. Both seem like they are living their best life and that couldn't make me happier! Memory is one of our most important human qualities and I believe this kind of generational connection develops and strengthens it.
Seeing an increase of hiring managers stretching into recruiting as well as lots of folks easily landing new roles. Not sure how this correlates with the markets but appears to be a good time to look for career advancement opportunities.
Anon: Will it get worse for Palestine? My 2 sats: What we will see over the next 4-5 months is increasing escalations with the likelyhood of all-out war in the region. Israel is seeking this conflict. America has proven incapable of mediator status and the Arab rulers are turning east to China. Iran is declaring that Haniyah's assassination is equivalent to an act of war and that USA is complicit in that act. Iran will be responding with a strike on Israel (most likely targeting military/intelligence assets) and Yemeni and Lebanese proxies may coordinate similar attacks. Any Israeli tit-for-tat response from that will be seen as acknowledgement of engagement in warfare and allying states will begin to be drawn in. There is no functioning commander-in-chief of the "rules based order", and in that vacuum chaos rules. With the USA entering recession territory, its engagement in this war could also trigger major collapse of USD and global economic crisis. If that happens it will be something allowed to happen likely to advance CBCDs and/or currency devaluations. Hold on to your hats (and sats)! It is about to get much worse for Palestine and the rest of the world.
Main criticism I hear from folks on MT is that Nostr doesn't have any muslim scholars. I'm not interested in importing Dawah Inc and irl the ones I know hardly use tech outside of streaming classes (and even this is more so done through their students). Do we have any hiding on here already? What would a scholar's engagement in this space look like? View quoted note →
Going to be doing some traveling for work/fun over the next few months and found this to be a nice reminder of the benefits that come when stretching yourself into new areas.
First attempt at using a non-Apple phone in over a decade today. Failed! Will try again in a few weeks...
