Polen -> White Negroes of Europe.
The Haitian national team has placed the POLISH FLAG on their official jerseys, which they will wear at the World Cup!
This is neither a designer's mistake nor a coincidence – it is an exceptional gesture full of respect that touches the heart of every Pole. In 1802, Napoleon sent several thousand soldiers from the Polish Legions to San Domingo (present-day Haiti) to crush the slave rebellion there. The Poles, however, chose a different path. Instead of fighting against those struggling for freedom, many of them joined the rebels' side and stood shoulder to shoulder with the Haitians against the French forces. After the revolution's victory and the declaration of independence in 1804, Haiti's first leader – Jean-Jacques Dessalines – paid great tribute to the Poles. He granted them full citizenship, and in the constitution, he called them the "White Negroes of Europe." These were words of the highest recognition and brotherhood in those times. A portion of the Polish soldiers (about 400–500) stayed on the island permanently, mainly in the Cazale region, where their descendants live to this day. Today, more than two hundred years later, the memory of Polish courage and solidarity still lives on in Haiti. When their footballers step onto the pitch, they carry on their chests a symbol of our shared history – a history of the fight for freedom that knows no borders or skin colors.
