CONDUCTOR: Conductor is a fawn, struggling to stand up on four legs. It is standing, but wobbly! Most of the time I just approve events. I can do this now with conductor. There are a lot more things to do, like loading pubkey metadata, paging (so we don't load too much data at once), adjusting marked data, user management, and handing 1984 reports... and of course syncing with NIP-86 and other relays. This is paired with Chorus master branch. It probably doesn't work with other NIP-86 relays. If you try chorus master branch beware of signfiicant changes coming in the unreleased 2.0 (read docs/MIGRATION.md). It will not work with chorus 'latest' branch.
Nostr is the Church of Bitcoin. And as a bitcoin unbeliever, I'd like to probe the understandings and beliefs of those who are really into bitcoin. These false dichotomy questions are meant to spur discussion, of course I don't think anyone can simply choose one over the other, but I wonder what people are thinking. Which of the following is true: 1. If government went away, the people would be free of the oppression of taxes, all interactions would be voluntary, and anarcho-capitalism can finally bring in a utopia. 2. if government went away, the infrastructure would erode (roads, the internet, power distribution, sewage, etc) and people would be living in fear of violent gangs that would have bloody and terrible battles for power. Which of the following is true: 1. Bitcoin will grow to the point of being the world currency, at which point government won't have any reliable way to collect taxes and government will shrink away. 2. Bitcoin won't get much larger than it already is today because if it gets much bigger governments will shut it down, seeing it as an existential threat. I could ask more but I think you get the point. My belief is that small governments are good and necessary things, and governments will not allow themselves to lose revenue in any significant amount, so bitcoin can't grow much larger unless it embraces KYC (which the Church of Bitcoin clearly doesn't). And therefore IMHO there is no bitcoin endgame other than where we currently are. I believe we are living in an abnormal period of laxity. I"m about to run off and I won't see the replies to this for hours, so don't expect me to participate in the discussion right away. BTW: I am libertarian, I believe in free markets, I like power in the hands of the people, I hate the fact that governments are necessary, and I love free speech. But also I think I'm pragmatic and realistic.
GOSSIP USERS: Several major bugs have been fixed in the last week. If you are on master, please pull and recompile. * PRIVACY: gossip was authenticating to relays in many cases even if you turned on "require user approval before AUTHenticating..." * gossip was rendering nevent links as note1 links in some cases * when clicking the parent link, sometimes it wasn't finding the parent note (even though the note you clicked correctly hinted at which relay the note was at) * new users who adjusted settings during the first run were having their public key wiped, which appeared to have no identity and they had to regenerate on second run
What is causing all the Metabolic Dysfunction? @Paul Saladino MD thinks it is linoleic acid in the mitochondria. If linoleic acid is a problem, then the following foods are bad for you: wheat, corn, walnuts, soy, sesame seeds, pumkin seeds, rice, pistachios, almonds, canoia oil, commercial chickens, peanuts, ... all of which the fat portion has >20% LA. Even egg yolks are 16%. It is hard for me to believe that the natural foods in that list are causing the metabolic problem. My hypothesis is that humanity's romance with chemistry has produced thousands of variations of endocrine disruptors which are now all throughout or food, water and soil, and especially in plastics. People know about BPA, but all those "BPA-free" plastics just have different endocrine disruptors, possibly much worse ones. You can improve by sticking to natural and organic foods and using glass containers. But you can't eliminate your exposure. Of cousre these are both just hypotheses with no good evidence behind them.
