20 years ago today, Concorde’s final flight; G-BOAC departing into the low cloudbase at Heathrow on 31st October 2003.
We took a step backwards then, as we did post-Apollo. Not the natural order of an exploratory species to voluntarily become less capable.
The hits keep coming.
I don’t believe X/@saveyoursons is on here, so I’m just going to re-post attributed as I get value from this healthy reminder. My goodness do they grow up fast.
“I keep this picture nearby at all times. I know it's kind of just a cheesy meme, but it serves an important purpose for me.
It reminds me to pay attention to what actually matters. It reminds me to say yes to my kids more. It reminds me that at the end of my life I'm not going to care how many grains of sand in my hourglass I spent on business or work or anything like that.
All that will matter at the end is your memories, and the way you impacted the people you love.”
Our youngest comes home from daycare with so much sand in his shoes we’ve decided to start collecting it to see if we have a whole sandpit by the time he leaves for kindergarten.

A relative of mine lives in a complex for seniors and reports his neighbour plans to “keep going until he runs out of money and then apply for MAID”.
Welcome to retirement in Trudeau’s Canada.
Trust me bro, I’m from an international framework.
“Japan has joined an international framework backed by cyber powers the U.S., the U.K. and Israel for software manufacturers to ensure security of their products against cyber-attacks”
The eco-cult, having established that both the invention of the wheel and harnessing of fire were unfortunate and ideally reversible events in the history of mankind, now have their sights firmly set on science at large.
Excellent thread; post and responses. Honestly not sure what I’d be doing without #Bitcoin; spending my lunch breaks visiting the local bullion broker for coins and bars like I was during the early years of this century perhaps. What a mess. View quoted note →
Have spent the past four hours or so amid thousands at Heathrow T5 and, pleasingly, could probably count the number of humans wearing masks on my fingers.
Shame then that the airlines are codifying this bollocks by advising passengers during recorded safety briefs to remove face coverings before donning oxygen masks. Good grief.
This will probably turn out to be some “environmental” protest; regardless, whomever did it should be hung from the toenails until dead.
I was only there with the family last month, and have some lovely photos of the kids hugging the tree. It’s been a thing for generations.
I was talking with a friend about the London ULEZ thing (for the unfamiliar, London is now heavily charging drivers of older cars across large swathes of the capital).
Ostensibly this is for emissions, but this is clearly bollocks as it’s driving older but small and efficient vehicles off the road. Instead it’s to force people into newer vehicles which, EV or not, are all networked.
Hold onto the old “analogue” clunkers for as long as possible. View quoted note →
