Old Definition: Someone opposed to a ruling class.
New definition: A political movement that seeks to abolish all institutions that perpetuate authority, coercion or hierarchy, primarily targeting the state and capitalism (Wikipedia)
2. Vaccine
Old Definition (pre-2021): A product that stimulates the immune system to produce immunity to a specific disease, implying full protection against infection.
New Definition (post-2021): A preparation that stimulates the body's immune response to produce protection from a disease (per CDC)
2. Recession
Old Definition (common rule of thumb): Two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth.
New Emphasis (2022 onward): Not strictly two quarters; now a "significant decline in economic activity" across multiple indicators (e.g., employment, income), per the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).
3. Inflation
Old Definition: Primarily an increase in money supply, devaluing currency (monetary inflation).
New Definition: Rising prices of goods/services, often measured by CPI
4. Fascism
Old Definition: A specific authoritarian system (e.g., Mussolini's Italy) with ultranationalism, racial purity, and state-corporate fusion.
New Usage: Broadly means "something undesirable" or any right-wing authoritarianism
5. Gender
Old definition: Male or Female
New definition: Whatever...
