I tend to agree with Curry and Dvorak on this one. Given the insane amount of money these companies can afford to spend, not only on advertising but also on campaigns to pressure doctors to push their products, it seems like they shouldn't need taxpayer money to fund their research. Imagine the impact if drug companies had less money to spend on product promotion because they had to fully fund their own research. Maybe news outlets and physicians would no longer be afraid to do honest investigations into the safety and efficacy of their products.

I think maybe one reason so many people don't bother to try to learn about Bitcoin is due to the scammy feel of the goal posts getting pushed back with respect to the "$1 million per coin" predictions. I think there's something about that milestone that's significant in people's minds and it doesn't help adoption to hear prominent people keep pushing back the date. Maybe McAfee was just trying to jump-start adoption when he made his infamous "by 2020" prediction, but many others since have made similar predictions using more distant dates. And it's quite discouraging to the uninvested observer to see that ETA now into the 2030s or later as their dollar keeps buying less and less at the supermarket.

Tempted to ask AI if anyone makes two-way radio equipment with some kind of gain control that can make the spoken audio volume as loud as the roger beeps and repeater IDs but I'm sure if such a thing exists I probably can't afford it.
