One thing I love about LN integration with nostr and podcasting 2.0 is the empowerment to decide for myself, not just how much the content was worth but far more often, how much value I can afford to return to one creator without shafting another one. A big problem with a subscription model especially in this economy is it forces the creator to presume that every fan can afford the entry level tier. It sucks that there's no way to measure how much value is being left on the table by creators who force you to choose between "becoming a member" or giving nothing, to take a chance on a subscription that can be started with the click of a mouse but whose cancelation procedure rivals that of out-processing from the military. On the other hand, news 'relayers' on nostr - whether they be real humans or news bots - provide the value of helping me avoid doomscrolling on platforms that are beholden to advertisers, activist groups and/or hidden government pressure campaigns. Contrast that with if I want to know the latest involving local charities or government agencies, I'm forced to hold my nose and visit Facebook. View quoted note →
