One thing I love about LN integration with nostr and podcasting 2.0 is the empowerment to decide for myself, not just how much the content was worth but far more often, how much value I can afford to return to one creator without shafting another one.
A big problem with a subscription model especially in this economy is it forces the creator to presume that every fan can afford the entry level tier. It sucks that there's no way to measure how much value is being left on the table by creators who force you to choose between "becoming a member" or giving nothing, to take a chance on a subscription that can be started with the click of a mouse but whose cancelation procedure rivals that of out-processing from the military.
On the other hand, news 'relayers' on nostr - whether they be real humans or news bots - provide the value of helping me avoid doomscrolling on platforms that are beholden to advertisers, activist groups and/or hidden government pressure campaigns. Contrast that with if I want to know the latest involving local charities or government agencies, I'm forced to hold my nose and visit Facebook.

My favorite vehicle door handles were the old style where the unlatching mechanism (plunger) was separate from the non-moving handle used to pull the door open. It just felt like a more durable design.

It was brought to my attention yesterday, some of us are under the apparently inaccurate assumption that running a Start9 or Umbrel out of our homes somehow helps future node runners with IBD.
My most recent IBD took over two weeks. To me that's un-[expletive]-acceptable in 2025, not with all the big money that has now come into Bitcoin. You can stick a fat Virginia boy into a metal tube and have him eating authentic Chinese food in China in a fraction of the time it takes to get a new node up and running.
How do we fix this if most of our hardware and residential ISPs can't handle it? Sneakernet? Donations to those with the proper hardware and connections?
Best description of the Canaan Nano 3s:
1) a small heater that can mine bitcoin, or
2) a miner that can heat a small space?
I ask because the intended recipient is an elderly lady with zero interest in bitcoin mining, so she's not going to have any patience for something 'fiddly'.
Finally!
Aug 29 - Sep 15, 914779 blocks.
An 'old saying' from the future:
"A watched node never syncs."
There was a gap of only 23 seconds between blocks 914164 and 914165?

How about y'all figure out a way to disguise blocks as dirty movies and trick the porn sites into relaying blocks.
