As bitcoin grows, companies will hire security experts from other industries. There will be some amazingly smart people from other industries who are not bitcoiners. They’ll look and say “why in the world are you guys doing it that way”. We’ll all benefit from those fresh eyes.

This is a standard safety matrix used in the aviation industry. You create a list of all the possible risks and then determine where they fall in the matrix. The orange and red get the most attention and mitigations. For every mitigation, you also must ensure that you are not creating a new risk that is as high or higher than the one you’re trying to reduce. “Just don’t make a mistake” is only allowed for the green zones. I’m seeing a lot of recommendations for how to change your bitcoin storage setup that give no consideration of the new risks they create. Take your time, and especially if you didn’t have a Coldcard in your set up, make sure you’re not just trading risks.
