Pressure canned kidney beans and white navy beans (and one mixed) with salt, chicken broth, crushed garlic, Thai hot sauce and a touch of maple syrup. You can get a bag of these dry at the grocery store for $1.50 each. Good protein in a pinch.

Me: Write a story in 500 words or less about how a man managed to exit the corporate world and achieve his dream of homesteading and becoming self sufficient with little reliance on social systems
ChatGPT
Once tethered to the corporate grind, Richard's longing for a simpler life sprouted like a seed within him. Tired of the relentless city pulse, he yearned for open spaces and self-sufficiency. Armed with determination, he embarked on a journey to transform his dream into reality.
The first step was to acquire knowledge. Richard immersed himself in books, online courses, and workshops, learning about sustainable living, permaculture, and homesteading. Nights once spent scrolling through emails were now dedicated to understanding soil health, animal husbandry, and off-grid energy systems.
Savings became his launchpad. Richard meticulously budgeted and cut unnecessary expenses. A financial cushion allowed him to weather the transition period without succumbing to financial stress. As he bid farewell to the corporate world, he found solace in the prospect of trading his tailored suits for rugged overalls.
The hunt for the perfect piece of land led him to a rural paradise. Richard traded the hustle and bustle for rolling hills and a plot of fertile soil. It wasn't just a change of address; it was a shift in lifestyle. The city's cacophony was replaced by the symphony of nature, and the neon glow of urban nights was exchanged for the brilliance of star-lit skies.
Building his homestead from scratch tested Richard's mettle. From constructing a modest house to setting up permaculture beds, every challenge was a lesson. With each hurdle, he became more adept at living off the land. A once tech-centric man now found fulfillment in manual labor, connecting with the earth in ways he never imagined.
Self-sufficiency became his mantra. Solar panels adorned his roof, providing energy harvested from the sun. Rainwater collection systems quenched his thirst, and organic gardens yielded a bounty of fruits and vegetables. Chickens clucked in the background, providing fresh eggs. Richard's homestead blossomed into a harmonious ecosystem, and he reveled in the independence it offered.
Community became his new currency. In the absence of corporate hierarchies, Richard forged connections with neighboring homesteaders. Barter replaced transactions as he exchanged surplus produce for necessities. The collective knowledge of the community became a valuable resource, a stark contrast to the isolation of corporate cubicles.
As seasons cycled and years passed, Richard marveled at the metamorphosis. He was no longer a cog in the corporate machinery but a steward of his own destiny. The measure of success shifted from profit margins to the health of his livestock and the vibrancy of his crops.
The simplicity of his life reflected a richness that transcended monetary wealth. Richard, once entangled in the corporate web, had untangled himself to dance with the rhythm of nature. The homestead was not just a haven; it was a testament to the power of a dream pursued with unwavering determination.
I am floored. I’m finally getting my feet wet with AI and I feel like I have found a secret weapon at work and at home. I feel like one of the apes gathered around the base of the monolith in 2001 a Space Odyssey. It’s like discovering fire. 🔥
Goodnight all.

Likely violating a health code, but aww well it’s cute when the cat watches my wife meal prep.

Finally. Last batch of pressure canned potatoes from last fall. Keeping the dirt on them and keeping them in total darkness around 55-60F till right before processing kept them viable for a long time.

I feel like I just discovered fire. I created my first template with ChatGPT today to automate estimate creation for our company. I can now write an estimate in about the tenth of the time it took me yesterday. Now the question: Who gets to benefit? Do I get to finish my workday three or four hours sooner and go to the gym so I can be the best I can be at work tomorrow and in the future? Or does my employer just give me ten times more estimates to do in a day? Technology like smart phones and email are supposed to leverage and liberate our time, but they have really just allowed us to cram more work and more communications into the same long ass day, for the same pay. I guess the only way to leverage technology for your own benefit is if you are self employed. I would love to share this tool with others in the company, but I’d just be shooting myself in the foot.
