What happens if the Mostro 🧌 node you use goes down? Your sats were never there. In Mostro, funds live in your Lightning wallet⚡ throughout the entire trade. The node coordinates the exchange, but never holds custody of your funds. If the node stops working, you can connect to another one and keep trading. The network doesn't depend on any particular node. That's what truly decentralized infrastructure means.

Mostro 🧌 uses Nostr to communicate. What is that? Nostr is a decentralized messaging protocol. Nobody controls it. There's no central server that can censor it or shut it down. When you buy or sell on Mostro, messages between you and your counterpart travel encrypted through Nostr. Nobody can read them. Nobody can block them ⚡ That's why Mostro doesn't need a central database or a company behind it. The protocol exists as long as people use it.

The person who uses Mostro 🧌 isn't necessarily a developer or a Bitcoin expert. It's someone who at some point decided they'd rather understand how their money works than blindly trust whoever manages it. When you start a trade on Mostro 🧌, the first thing that happens is Lightning generates a hold invoice. What's that? An invoice that locks the seller's sats without collecting them yet. They sit there, on hold, until the buyer confirms the fiat payment and the seller verifies it. Only then does Lightning release them ⚡ If something goes wrong before that confirmation, the sats return to the seller automatically. That's the mechanism that makes custody-free P2P exchange possible. The protocol coordinates. Nobody touches the funds.

Mostro v0.17.5 is out 🧌🎉 This release adds anti-abuse bonds. In simple terms: before starting certain trades, each side may need to lock a small bond. If they complete the trade normally, they get it back. If they disappear, stall the trade, or waste the other person’s time, they can lose part or all of it. Why this matters: • it makes spam and fake intent more expensive • it discourages people from opening trades they don’t plan to finish • it protects honest users from griefing and endless waiting • it helps the marketplace stay usable without turning Mostro into a custodial system The goal is simple: real traders should have a smoother experience, bad actors should have a harder time. Anti abuse bond is optional and it is decided by the Mostro node operator. Mostro remains P2P and non-custodial, but now with stronger incentives to behave seriously. Release:
