After intense days at my fourth Oslo Freedom Forum, I am finally back home.
Year after year, I have listened to the stories of activists from all over the world. Stories that are difficult to hear, but far more difficult to remember and tell for those who have actually lived through them. And yet, they still stand in front of us and share the harsh reality of what is happening in their countries.
Over these four years at #OsloFF, I have come back each time more convinced than ever to keep building open, censorship-resistant tools, tools that in one way or another can be useful to people living under constant attack from their own governments.
Getting to know activists on the front lines firsthand, and sharing a meal, a coffee, or even just five minutes of conversation with them, is something I deeply value.
I am incredibly grateful to @HRF for making this experience possible, and congratulations to the team, because every year the forum brings together stories, people, and struggles that remind us why this work matters.
More than 70% of the world’s population lives under authoritarianism. Chances are, if you are reading this, you are part of the privileged 30%. If that is the case, remember this: freedom and democracy are not things we can take for granted, but things we must defend every single day. The price of losing them is far too high.
