Buenos días nostriches... Last day for hibiscus. Time to harvest the last of the calyces and seperate them from seed pods for drying. Later the dried calyces are brewed into a great hot or cold drink known as "Jamaica", great for pancreas and thirst quenching. #homesteading #permaculture #gardening

Yesterday harvesting "Jamaica" as the Mexicans call it or " "Roselle" as the Aussies know it. The plant is an Indian Sorrel aka as a part of the Hibicus family. The flower calyces are taken after flowering and then you break off the calyces from the seed pods and leave both to dry out. You can make a very popular refreshing drink or jam from brew ing the calyces. The used calyces from brewing can be fried in butter, garlic and salt for a great snack or condiment as well. The leaves of the plant are also edible if you like salads I just learned yesterday from another bitcoiner that you can puncture the seed pods and boil to make the gelatin for jam instead of using pectin. Sweetened with agave, honey or stevia if you don't want the sugar spike or just straight as a refreshing tonic. I love this stuff cause it's medincinal properties are good for pancreas and anti inflammatory which is always good for arthritis. Have a great week, PV #homesteading #permaculture #gardening

Finally getting a linseed, mineral oil 1st coat on rammed earth patio. Heating up to thin it better for absorption. Will dry probably a darker brick color like terracotta clay. Probably will need at least 2 coats for exterior. Interiors may take even more for a polished finish.

The flowers begining on the hibiscus (indian- sorrel) which are used to make a very popular Mexican red tea, "Jamaica" brewed with water, great for pancreas. Aka celestial seasons "red zinger". #homesteading #permaculture #gardening

Buenos días nostriches... Been so busy while I remembered to take photos I never edited publish them. The latest patio project has its final cap coat with some color and now to let fully dry out for a week or more before oiling it up.
