I am going to be dreaming of cutting and slicing carrots 🥕 tonight. One more round of steaming and vacuum sealing tomorrow after work, and I’ll be done till potatoes and the other canning projects that’ll fill weekends now till Christmas. Minus 12 days of whitetail hunting and hopefully some nights of butchering. #prepping #gardenstr #grownostr

Round one of two down on preserving carrots. An hour of washing. An hour and a half of peeling and slicing. I managed to turn my canner into a giant steamer with the rack and a colander, to fully cook the carrots without boiling away all of the nutrients. Then into a clean sink of very cold water, into the salad spinner, and into vac bags. Kind of a pain in the ass, but oh well, so is starving if the supply chain gets bumped. Freezing isn’t my fav method but it’s so cold here most of the year I don’t have to worry about losing refrigeration.

I just kind of blew my mind just now. I went to figure out the lb yield per square foot on these boxes. 50lb on 16 square feet. 3.125. The same number as the current block reward lol. Maybe it’s a sign and the BitAxe will hit a block tonight. View quoted note →

We dug four of six 2’x2’ potato boxes tonight. The yield was about 50lb. Here they are pictured with the top frame removed. It doesn’t take much soil or space this way. We should get another 25lb off the last two boxes tomorrow. Due to the tight confines of the boxes, we do sometimes get huge mutants like the one pictured, where a number of spuds meld together lol. #gardenstr #grownostr

Not bad for a 4’x4’ bed. Just earned myself a bunch more work lol. #gardenstr #grownostr

Pulling carrots today. It’s always cool seeing what’s been happening below the surface for the past couple of months. By this time tomorrow my hands will be orange from peeling and slicing. I usually just cook and vacuum seal them in single servings to pull out in the winter. I’ll post pictures of the haul here later. I really tried to focus on adequate spacing and keeping the 18” of soil from getting compacted. Hopefully they grew straight and long. Every year is a new surprise. #gardenstr #grownostr image

Some decent deer hanging around the stand. Which one will make a mistake and think with the wrong head this fall? #huntstr #grownostr
