We dug four of six 2’x2’ potato boxes tonight. The yield was about 50lb. Here they are pictured with the top frame removed. It doesn’t take much soil or space this way. We should get another 25lb off the last two boxes tomorrow. Due to the tight confines of the boxes, we do sometimes get huge mutants like the one pictured, where a number of spuds meld together lol. #gardenstr #grownostr

Yes this time I just went with three levels. I have enough frames to go five high. But it didn’t help the yield much. I bought non determinate variety seed potatoes to see if I could get tubers on multiple levels by continually hilling it deeper throughout the middle of the growing season. All of the potatoes still only grew in the bottom three layers. There may be a variety that does grow at multiple levels, but I haven’t found it. This is a decent way to go if you are limited by space. But I’d still rather have two or three 30’ rows hilled up in a garden plot and properly mulched.
