This using the advertising platforms and networks operating within smartphone apps. The tool could also even track a target’s children or co-workers. A YouTube video that has been taken offline, viewed by 404 Media, shows that the tools can analyze data from more than 600,000 apps. The company says it has profiles of more than five billion user IDs. It says it sees the smartphone as a virtual ankle strap."

In today's technology killed the privacy star news: They'll just handwave it away and say you have no expectation of privacy since the data was collected in a public space but this is some real nasty work. "These images were generated by AI-powered cameras mounted on cars and trucks, initially designed to capture license plates, but which are now photographing political lawn signs outside private homes, individuals wearing T-shirts with text, and vehicles displaying pro-abortion bumper stickers—all while recording the precise locations of these observations. Newly obtained data reviewed by WIRED shows how a tool originally intended for traffic enforcement has evolved into a system capable of monitoring speech protected by the US Constitution."
