From December, Italy and Germany will be linked by direct high-speed Frecciarossa trains, between Rome & Milan to Munich. It's possible because of a partnership between Trenitalia, Deutsche Bahn and Österreichische Bundesbahnen (because it has to pass through Austria). Milan <-> Munich ~6:30h Rome <-> Munich ~8:30h Future plans include extensions to Berlin and Naples by 2028, and there are discussions for Italy to Vienna too, but nothing concrete yet.

The French Riviera to Vienna, day 3 For the last segment of our return home, we had a 4:23h trip with the Austrian RailJet. Wonderful as usual, and probably my favourite train. As previously stated, I was interested in the Udine to Vienna segment because of the completion of the new Koralm Railway, and I'll write more in a future post. I had two nice short trips with the Viennese S-Bahn. When I moved to Austria, this was the train that made me love trains. 🤷 Here are a few train pictures and a video, plus some random pictures from the trip.
