Mainly travelling to/from Austria, Italy and France. Secondarily, Germany, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. I am based in Austria, and my focus will be on long-distance travel, but I will offer all kinds of tips for local and regional trains, from ways to reduce prices to the most beautiful routes. 48xTc8MbEuCVkRbwGGo1PxP3XsJtvwAgFhtJ7ML6dobV9TTYeSxBnHNFNdqkLLR18kK5K1L5qxVgjRZHkGkVYrvaHDPozew
You'll be more relaxed after this. Eisfelder-Talmühle train station, Harz Narrow Gauge Railways. (Credit to Olaf Berlig)
For autists, nerds and simple train enjoyers, a moment of relaxation.
The French Riviera to Vienna, day 3 For the last segment of our return home, we had a 4:23h trip with the Austrian RailJet. Wonderful as usual, and probably my favourite train. As previously stated, I was interested in the Udine to Vienna segment because of the completion of the new Koralm Railway, and I'll write more in a future post. For now, only a few pictures from the Udine train station. (As usual, I'll add the previous post and more as replies to this note.) View quoted note →
I had two nice short trips with the Viennese S-Bahn. When I moved to Austria, this was the train that made me love trains. 🤷 Here are a few train pictures and a video, plus some random pictures from the trip.
Because "you live, you learn", I discovered the budget version for the Bernina route, from Milan. 😂 While the Bernina Express goes from Chur or St. Moritz (Switzerland) to Tirano (Italy), I found a two-segment trip, from Milan to St. Moritz, with a change in Tirano. So the Tirano to St. Moritz is the reason for this, but way cheaper. I searched on Omio for February 12. image Milan to Tirano, €13, around 2:35h, Trenitalia/Trenord (regional train). A lot of trains to choose from. image Tirano to St. Moritz, €40, around 2:25h, with SBB. Again, a lot of departure times to choose from. I'll attach the video where I got the idea from as a reply, and it seems that you can actually find a lower price (€12,50 + €30). The video is in Italian, but I can translate it in the next few days if someone needs it. View quoted note →
Always a pleasure to watch Swiss variable gauge train switching from 1000 mm to 1435 mm gauge. 🤌 (From Railway Gazette International)
Il Settebello (ETR 300), called "The King of Italian Elegance", created in 1952.
Because sometimes I just need a (more or less) random reason to travel, I'll do the same for you. With the disclaimer that I prefer to live like a local most of the time, at least when I stay more than a weekend, here's the farmers' market from Cannes, Marché Forville. (I might add as a reply at some point.)
Wow! I never said this, but this is an awesome snowplough! From Kiel's area (North Germany), credit to Jens Thomsen.

You have to forgive me for posting ads, even unpaid ones, but the Rhätischen Bahn/Railway deserves it. (The Rhine Gorge, Switzerland)
Not my video, but I liked it so I had to research a bit to find out where it is from, and I want to share. (DB fan here) Eschenlohe (Bavaria, Germany), on the Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen Railway, a single-track electrified line.
