At the foundation of nostr, underlying the protocol, is the principle of a sovereign identity that’s controlled by the owner and can be used by them to build a web of trust across applications. This, along with decentralization, are the features that need to be held up as a main attraction while simultaneously being made so simple that they’re buried to the average user. That is not to say those points are the killer app. But they will be critical to any great app and should be positioned as such without a need to go deep on nostr details. Using a self generated key-pair as proof of identity isn’t new to nostr. But nostr provides the rails to make it work between apps. This isn’t the best analogy, but think of nostr as a new OS with an almost empty desktop. Or the internet before there were many websites.
