Serious question: We hear a lot about how phytoestrogens can skew our hormones and how we should probably avoid them. But meat and dairy contain hormones, too, even if the animals haven’t been injected with extra hormones — just because all animals naturally have hormones, including estrogens. Why are these animal hormones present in our diet, which are even more similar to our own hormones, not considered as much of a problem as phytoestrogens? Today I learned that my copper glaze can RUN if it’s touching a runny glaze and fired twice 💕 I am gonna have to play with that some more because I absolutely love it!! I had to fire it twice because even though I tried to fill up a crack that didn’t go all the way through the bottom with glaze, it didn’t work and I still had a crack that would make it impossible to clean. I CAKED on more glaze in hopes it would fill it without frothing with bubbles, and it pretty much worked! The bubbles it made are few and something I can clean all right, especially in the dishwasher. The inside was much prettier before, though; see last picture. Potters, this is a band of Amaco Ancient Copper (original formulation I think, gotta try it with the new one) touching studio-made glaze called Spearmint on the bottom edge. I had tried to make them not overlap but, well, I’m not the most precise, and it’s a refire 😁 I did make this fern bowl for my own family but if anyone feels very strongly about it, DM to inquire and I can think up a price. I painted a wooden box for Sophia and I’m fairly proud of it! I got this pre-carved unfinished wood box from the home goods section of Hobby Lobby. It’s a bit higher quality than many unfinished wood boxes at craft stores, especially the hinge. In acrylic, I usually use cyan (thalo blue), magenta (thio violet), and yellow (cadmium yellow medium hue) along with white and black (titanium and mars). Making this box, I experimented with progressively mixing the color, i.e., making the next color by adding paint to the previously mixed color. My thought was this would lead to nicely earthy, complex, harmonious colors. I diluted all with water to give a muted, stained wood effect. I blended up white —> yellow —> pink —> blue —> violet —> green. I also added accent lines of iridescent gold. This was a fun way to do things, an interesting experience! But best of all, Sophia seems to really like it 🥰 she’s still in a “open and shut things” and “put things in containers” phase, so it’s a great gift for her right now that she can keep growing into. #painting #art #artstr #acrylic #box #baby #nostrbaby #cute #grownostr
