April 8, 2013. Two days after Cablegate went into Bitcoin, the same operator came back. Using the change address from the Cablegate upload, they ran three more transaction chains. Each file's first bytes read the GPG magic number. The cipher: CAST5. The passphrase was never published.
Three encrypted files. Roughly 86 KB each. Blocks 230,219, 230,222, and 230,256. Permanently embedded in Bitcoin using fake P2PKH outputs -- the same encoding method as Cablegate two days before, the same method as the Sassaman tribute two years before that. The files cannot be deleted. They cannot be modified. They cannot be read unless whoever holds the key chooses to publish it.
The same operator went on to embed five additional files of apparently random bytes in the same week -- possibly more encrypted data, possibly noise, possibly a deliberate decoy. Nobody has claimed authorship. No passphrase has surfaced in twelve years.
This is the edge of what Bitcoin's permanent record means. Cablegate is readable. The whitepaper is readable. The Sassaman eulogy is readable. But these three files are locked. Whoever put them there had something to preserve and chose Bitcoin as the vault -- knowing the files would outlast any private server, any cloud provider, any government seizure. What's in them is unknown. That they're there is verifiable.
