The last weekend of 2024 we organized another Bitcoin event in the town of Sorbas, in the south of Spain.
In this case, it was a series of parallel activities consisting of a market, a tournament of our educational video game "The Next Invention" and a Chess tournament.
As we have done in previous initiatives, we have tried to promote the circular economy based on Bitcoin, so both registrations and prizes were made with the second layer of Bitcoin.
On this occasion, we have had great support from the emerging Nostr community, which can be seen by visiting the Guadatech profile on Nostr
We also had the opportunity to experiment with new platforms such as zap.stream, which turned out to be a great discovery.
Once again, the technological platforms used such as @Bleskomat, @Alby and @LnBits were up to par and worked smoothly, providing a great service.
However, and related to the latter, we have found something that, although it was expected, has surprised us greatly, and that is the gap between how advanced Bitcoin technology is and how backward the general public's knowledge of the most basic concepts on this subject is.
We have had the case of people who have not signed up for the tournament at all because they were afraid of installing a Bitcoin-related application on their mobile phone. Parents who told their children that the Bitcoins they had just acquired had an expiration date.
We really do not realize how deeply anti-Bitcoin institutional propaganda can penetrate the individual psyche in our European countries.
But beyond the lack of knowledge of technology, the inflationary paradigm prevailing in our society is notorious, the aversion to saving that the very nature of Bitcoin promotes.
Thus, for example, the winners of the satoshis prizes in the Chess tournament did not stop asking how they could spend them immediately.
In fact, if these events we have organised at the end of this year have served any purpose, it is to make us realise the immense work that lies ahead for those of us who are thinking of training citizens in this area.
